Each BMW 3 series is the best car of its generation

None of these cars are in the same class as a 3 Series.

Which Golfs would they be?

Sure, but the opening post wasn't about cars in the same class.

I'm not a massive Golf aficionado but some of the early GTIs must have been on par as drivers cars with the 3 series of the time.

I thought it was. If it wasn't, I agree with you. There are loads of better drivers cars out there - virtually any car focused purely on driving, ie a Caterham, will be better.

I thought he was strictly talking about comparing it with class rivals.

No other car feels anywhere near as fluid - not A4, certainly not C class. Nothing else comes comes in terms of fluidity and the sheer way it flows. Drivetrain, acceleration, braking, gearbox, clutch, engine response, every single control....unsurpassed.

End of debate :p

Looks like he means every other car?

Yea, but then he compares to A4 and 3 Series.

Either way, I dunno now.

It is, however, a classic troll - the world troll actually meaning to post a thread in a forum/group that you know will cause conflict amongst the members, but to then sit back and not respond but merely watch the ensueing fight. Not a lot of people know that, prefering instead to use troll as a word for 'somebody who disagrees with me on the internet'.

Obviously not EVERY other car - that would be stupid. Use some common sense laddo. A BMW 3 series hardly competes with a Lambourghini, Ariel Atom, McLaren F1 or S-Class etc. Best car of its generation in terms of cars in its class and price range.... and we're not talking about "drivers" or "image" either - whats that got to do with how fluid a car feels? Nada.

I'd rather have a mondeo - more of an exclusive club, plus half the price ;)

It should be the best in its class, its certainly the most expensive to buy.

I dont like Beemers, they are too good, too clinical, they have no character, no soul.

While the opening post is a waste of time, on a related matter has anyone here driven comparable models of new C Class, 3 series and A4? I've driven all three of previous generations and the gap was quite large in BMW's favour, but lots of things I'm reading now puts it much closer and I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience?

Sorry but you're 18 and the OP probably around the same age.
How on earth can he even begin to think that you can make a comment like that from his own heart when he has almost no experience of driving?

The sad fact of the matter is if we all had subscriptions to a dozen motoring magazines, then this forum would be empty as so many members simple post what they've read elsewhere without understanding why it was said in the first place.

I just said what he said because it made no sense.. :/

Regardless I also have no idea what you're trying to get across.

Read his post, then read mine.

Nice cars I guess, but from what I hear, expensive to keep on the road, run, and maintain. Therefore, not ideal for me. For me, being "good" also includes affordability.
