Right - MEGA update.. its a good read, but I have tried to shorten it so that you can ask questions.
So... it's been way over a year since it all started and here I am today in what I would call a "successful" position as an outcome of my opportunities.
Since pitching on the night, I have received all sorts of opportunities and offers which at my age, I found extremely difficult to choose between. If you can imagine having offers of the top business schools wanting you to study degrees there, other pitching members asking you to join them, investment from experts and job opportunities.... I had many good things to choose from... I couldn't make a bad decision as everything led to new horizons.
At this point I was at my peak, yet I was merely at the bottom of a mountain pass, looking up at several routes to the top. Career advisers, teachers, project leaders were all useless... it was up to me to pick my path as I was unique, leaving me in a horrible situation where I needed to make a firm decision in a short space of time.
Unfortunately, after loosing my grandad (my inspiration and eventual motivation for pitching the project), I had one last person that had followed me since the day he met me on the workshop support residential. He knew I had potential and didn't judge my age, nor have any cruel intentions about stealing a upcoming idea. He was my mentor since that day and even went outside of his duties to help me along.
I managed to get him along to the evening and he was over the moon with how well I did and offered me the support I needed, but conclusively left me to make the final decision of
what next? Before I could make this decision, I got a phonecall to say that Jim had died suddenly from a heart failure... needless to say, I was completely overwhelmed with what had happened and the situation I was left in without support.
It was here that I made the decision to avoid starting my own company up at a young age with little experience and support. I lost my motivation and really need it back, but I doubt this will happen for sometime... so the idea is on hold.
I went along to see the investors a few times, before settling with a new opportunity, which would be to work alongside the entrepreneur off the panel "Simon". He offered the best opportunity that I could have picked at the time.
I have since worked a good 9 months with all kinds of projects (including releasing the revolution to the print industry via
www.freeprintmanagement.com) and have now settled working for the big names (Blockbusters, Gamestation, Ubisoft, Rare, Rockstar etc) on a day to day basis with Artwork, print, mechandise and all sorts of upcoming projects. I am also working with Simon to back the local "Oxford Entrepreneurs" as their sponsors and no doubt there will be a few off here that are members!
Over the last year I have been going to schools and giving chats on entreprise and business with young people, articles in magazines, radio and sponsorship programmes.
The hardest part is watching my friends go off to uni and enjoy themselves, I really miss them, but I have the opportunity to be working alongside like-minded people in an emotionally, intellectullay and financially secure environment. I can say that on average I am at least 4 years ahead of anyone I know from my year.
so a year on and lots has happened... I might be on TV again soon.. but thats not for me to tell....
P.s. Rather than supply a picture of me with a loaf of bread, you can just ask g0rd if you want hard proof
