Euro Qualifiers 13th & 17th October **Spoilers**

Sure hes been injured.
But he played very well when he did play for united this season and England too when he last played, which is something Gerrard hasn't done for a very long time.
Still, I wasn't so much referring to his good form as I was Gerrard/Lampards poor form of late.

Why should Hargreaves replace Barry, Barry has been man of the match twice in the last 3 games, you dont get that for nothing, mind you dont think he was as good against Estonia, but he didn't need to be.
Barry has earnt his place let him stay there.
would be nice if Hesky was fit as he would scare the hell out of the Russians with his presence alone, not the best forward around but big and strong which is good.

Barry has been the "change " in the team so of course he is noticable when good performances happen - doesnt mean he should stay there when Brazil, Germany , France, Italy etc play us (not to mention all the other teams that are much better technically than the teams we care currently playing)

At least it looks promising either that Italy or France are going to drop out at this stage (I know the Scots have an injury nightmare for Wednesday night but I will be hoping they win on merit, they deserve it if anyone does)

If Barry is dropped against russia it proves once and for all that Mclaren should not be managing England.

Barry's been outstanding in every game he's played for England, Lampard has been rubbish for what seems like ages. Barry lacks the sudden inspirational goal from nothing touch, but he plays his game within his limits and doesn't lose the ball on wasteful fancies, flicks etc. We have enough flair players in the side, we need a workhorse.

If its not broken and all that.....

We have won the last 5 matches by the same 3-0 scoreline. The team we have put out in the last 3 has pretty much been the same injuries preventing. I don't think we should change a winning formula.

Obviously we need to replace Cole at the back, I see Luke Young has been called up as a replacement, but I would like to see Shorey play there on Wednesday night. In the games he has played he has done well, and not tried to do anything fancy, he is the type of defender who plays the game simply.

Apart from that change I wouldn't do anything else. Barry is probably our best midfielder at the moment, and with 2 MotM awards in the last 3 games he is doing a brilliant job. I agree with the above that he probably isnt the best defensive option we could have, but I wouldn't take him out unless he starts playing badly, but we know that Mclaren cannot drop players when they play poorly (Lampard is the evidence to support this.) We cannot drop SWP either, his pace is enough to scare any defence, and given that the pitch we are playing on is artifical, the ball wont have any give, so would suit someone like Shaun, as there wont be any bobbles preventing him from making his "mazy" runs.

If I am honest, the only place it isnt really working is up front, but the Rooney and Owen partnership is always going to be any England managers preference, and with time it might work, especially now Rooney has learnt to find the net again.

Tomorrow, I'm off over to Moscow for the game.
Will be back Thursday, hopefully we will not try to sit back but push forwards more. We have the ability to score goals over there, depends on the managers tactics and use of personnel.
I would leave Kebab Frank on the bench to start, then maybe bring him on later, like on Saturday(except for another midfielder).

I'm confused as to why we've simply accepted that we're playing on an artificial pitch. Russia is a big place, surely they have something better than that.

FGS England have been training at an Altrincham High School!

I thought those pitches were now against the rules anyway. Of is that just the F.A.?

I know they are saying that it shouldn't make a difference to the play but they banned them in this country for good reason. It was a hell of a home advantage.

If they dont have pitches that come upto spec they shouldn't be in the tournament or should play at neutral grounds.

The strangest thing is they've (uefa) have accepted it for Wednesday but said the CL final must be played on an ordinary pitch.

please for the love of god, let gerrard be sick and unable to play .. i'd even go as far as to say let fat lamp play ahead of him , why ? because club football is more important than McLowns team

A lot of the talk today is that we're going to stick with a 4-4-2 with the only change being Lescott in for Cole.

Lescott will be a great player - but I still think someone with less natural skill but vastly more superior experience like Phl Neville would be bettter utilised in Moscow

Agree though all the talk is of 4-4-2 and at least thats some good news:D

After earlier being declared fit for tomorrows match, Terry has picked up an injury in training today and is 'almost certainly out' of the match now.

Campbell did a fair job on Saturday so that shouldn't be a problem.
It's slightly worrying the amount of injuries Terry has picked up recently though.

Dammit :(

Rio and Campbell should easily be good enough but I'd have (obviously) much preferred to have Terry in.

Its always more likely that you're going to pick up an injury when already carrying a knock. I wouldn't worry, he's like a bloody machine.

I know, he needs a proper rest intstead of being rushed back all the time, he's probably partly to blame for that as well:)
