Euro Qualifiers 13th & 17th October **Spoilers**

Scotland game was very poor to say the least.....Woeful performance from all......Our only saving grace is Italy have never beaten us at home and Ukraine might do us a favour too!

I don't agree with this bit, how many of the Brazil side that won the WC played in Brazil? How many of the French side played in France? Next to none so the amout of Brazilian or French players playing in there league made no difference because none were in the national side.

Errr .. doesn't that kind of ram the point home even more? Not only do the French and Brazilians have their own leagues full of home grown players but they also have players in foreign leagues .. it just makes the pool of talent even bigger ..

Our problem is the lack of technically gifted players to choose from and that's because of the standard of coaching at youth levels.

Can't argue with that

Oh well, scotlands winning streak has ended abrubtly. We lost against georgia and that dream to qualify is almost out of reach now. People joked about Scotland when the groups were drawn, with things being said like 'oh they might qualify if the faores beat italy by 6 goals and france lose to lithunia by 8'. I guess thats partly true now, at Hampden even with the world champions I still expect our 100% home record.

People can diss the players and the coach, but I am so happy at our position, we are top of the group (yes I know, before you say thats just for now) but who would have thought?

Scotland have defied the odds in the past, but they have defied even more odds now. Qualification this time would probably be our proudest achievement, but even if we dont, I still wear my Scotland top with pride. Even if our campaign comes to an abrupt end, the enjoyment that watching my team beat France and Ukraine and perform so well abroad has given me have been some of the best moments of my life so far. That feeling just before a game and the noise when we score at the pub is surreal!

Come on Scotland!!!!!!!!!!

Not really as next to none of the players playing in there home leagues are/were good enough to get into the national sides. Yes they have more players to choose from, from there own leagues but they're not getting into the sides because they're not good enough so that can't be used as a reason why they are successful.

Next to none so the amout of Brazilian or French players playing in there league made no difference because none were in the national side. Its only been Italy that won the WC while having all (at least the bulk of it anyway) there squad play in Italy but they have just as many foreign players in there league too.

Yeah but the point is those players are coming through their own home grown leagues full of Brazillians. The best teams of the last 20 or 30 years. Brazil, Argentina, Italy, France and Germany all have low foreigners in their leagues.

I think in an article on the same topic they said Italy had about 22% foreigners.

Players can come through from the lower leagues and work their way up. That money benefits the whole game.

Cambridge United can now no longer sell a dion dublin to Manu. Infact i'd be surprised if liverpool even bother producing another fowler. How many years since even Manu's famous youth policy has produced a quality player.

The lack of quality coming through is the reason why the top sides are buying foreign players instead. If players are good enough they will still come through, the likes of Gerrard and Owen still developed even when Houllier was bulk buying players from France.

Like i mentioned to Loki, youth team coaches aren't valued (outside a few of the top clubs) in this country and untill they are players won't get the proper coaching for them to develope. Supposidly a youth team coach in Holland gets paid similar amounts as an assistant manager and in some cases as much as the first team manager, i'd be shocked if that was the case over here.

If we don't qualify, I hope the new manager just dumps quite a few players. Gerrard, Lampard and Owen amongst others. Make them do what Beckham and Campbell have had to do to get back in, earn it!

International football is so amazingly dull anyway. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed an England match.

May as well just stick players like Walcott, Vaughan, Young etc straight in now if they really are the future.

Excellent one-all draw in Sweden for Norn Ireland.

We're still in it, but need to win our last two games.

Correct, but I know enough to see they are sod all without the man kicking the ball between the posts. I know enough to see they have done bugger all for the last 4 years apart from live off the world cup win.

I know enough people from other parts of the world to know england are seen as playing an awful form of rugby. Sure its been effective, but it doesnt make it pretty. ;)

Constant blaming of mclaren, the lack of fight is always put at someones door. Never the players. Which manager do you think will get some fight from these players?

Loki is right the game needs looking at from the bottom. Its no coincidence the last few teams to win the world cup have about 30% overseas players, yet we have over 70% and are getting nowhere.

The dutch are the same and they get nowhere.

The FA needs more power because most of these guys can't be arsed to turn out for england friendlies. The next england friendly Rooney will have a bad back, Gerrard will have a groin strain and so on.

These players know their position is safe. They should drop those players and make them fight for the place. Leave the people in that do turn up for friendlies.

But nothing will change, we will employ another big name manager and limp along. We can employ Fergie, Wenger or whoever. 1 tournament later we would be hearing about them being tactically crap.

Its the players, they just aren't really that good.

Sorry but you dont know enough about Rugby to comment, all you are doing is repeating what some of the press are saying - ie without a thought in your head and no knowlege of rugby to possibly make an educated statement so I'd leave it at that if I were you.;)

Personally I rated Sven and I still do, Mclaren I most certainly do not - he has never poven himself at top flight so why in God's name put him in charge of England. Of course McClaren is not soley to blame - the people in charge of selection at the FA should be fired, and the press themselves ought to be ashamed of themselves for stoking up this 'little England' mentality, stating that the new manager should be English. But it seems we have differences of opinion on that matter also.

No difference of opinion. I just dont buy all this mclaren is crap, tactically woeful stuff. The players have no fight, blame mclaren etc

Its the players that are rubbish, regardless of who he plays in a 4-4-2 they should be good enough to beat the likes of who they have played home or away.

Game after game there is always some excuse. Playing out of position blah blah. Why is it our players arent good enough to play in another role. Do other international sides that play us always have players playing in their preferred positions.

Gerrard can't play with lampard etc.

Seems now he can't play with Barry either.

Perhaps Alonso is the only player he can be carried by, sorry build a partnership with.

Every time we get a squad its the best ever. Scholes Gerrard, beckham every team we were told would want our midfield. We are told we now have players in almost every position that the rest of the world would love.

Yet time and time again they flop.

Our supposed world class players, play one good game in ten. I reckon there's a good case for saying Rooney played his best game for england against turkey in his debut.

Sven was supposed numpty, yet he take over city makes a few changes. Buys players they slated for having no premiership experience. He proves them wrong.

I hope england gets a top drawer manager. It wont change much and hopefully once and for all people can start looking deeper than a manager why our players dont perform.
