i cant see iran ever having a potent nuclear ability, they might be able to boast about increasing production of weapons grade material but the leadership knows deep down that israel will not hesitate to make a pre-emptive strike as they did at osirak in iraq in the early 80's plus israel is the only country in that region with an offensive nuclear arsenal, and i would say if they were pushed hard enough they wouldnt hesitate to use it
He didn't. The UN and IAEA did, and Iran didn't play by their rules. Basically, Iran signed up to the NPT which meant it could develop nuclear power as long as it was totally transparent about it. Then in 2003 the IAEA found Iran had been running a secret nuclear research program for nearly 20 years, in direct violation of the NPT. They were asked to suspend all their nuclear work so this could be investigated - but they started banging on about their "rights" and now won't suspend their work. Nobody is happy about it - not just the US.
As far as I'm concerned, Iran can have all the nuclear power they want - but they have to regain a lot of trust first. And now of course it's not that easy...
Oh, and it doesn't matter who comes into power in the USA in 2008 - Israel pretty much runs the US government anyway. Democrat or Republican, they'll pretty much do what Israel wants I'm afraid.

Who do you think supplied Israel's immediate neighbours with most of their military equipment? (let's leave the British and French out of this at the moment). And I believe the word Pogrom is still in the mind of many people especially in Russia!
I personally doubt that if Russia is helping Iran build a "nice new shiny Nuclear Reactor" they (the Russians) would be happy to see the Israelis blow it up. Of course they might get the contract to build a second one!
Having said that I hope you're right and Russia would side with Israel.

There's a difference between protecting ourselves from the Nazi's and fighting for an American war in the Middle East.
War is generally the result of goverments and presidents falling out. Its SELFISH imo to start a war! Who would cause war on Iran ? America or George bush because his dummy fell out ?
Perhaps its Iran's decision to switch to Euros for oil payments rather than the dieing Dollar?
Did'nt Saddam attempt to do the same thing before Iraqs liberation(laugh) by the US?
