I've also seen Diskeeper recommended, but it's managed to kill a Windows install for me before (I still don't know how), so i'm loathed to suggest it to you.
It was a while ago though, probably been through many updates since.
I used Diskeeper with XP and it worked fine; well, I never had any problems. I haven't done anything other than leave Vista to get on with it and it doesn't seem to cause any problems. Mind, I don''t know how much faster the machine might go with a properly defragged disk - or maybe I have one with the Vista defragger.....
I've used them all on Vista and in the end I just use the Vista defragger set to defrag every day at 6am and I never have to worry about defragging again
It only defrags if the disk is fragmented and needs defragging (does analysis first) but I just let it do its thing so there's one less process to take off my mind
Wake up in the morning and I know my disks are all in optimum running order!
