2007 Brazillian GP - Race 17/17

If they are found to be breaking the rules then the only possible sanction is Disqualification! It's a sad state of affairs but there we are, you live by the sword you die by the sword.

Only thing is, would Lewis Hamilton really want the championship to be won this way? I mean ok its great to win, but wasn't under his own steam. I would love it, but might be a bit i dunno 'tarnished' ?

They won't chuck them out, it wasn't the drivers fault for it. They'll lose constructors points + a $10,000 fine or something really miniscule and a slap on the wrists for being naughty boys :p

yeah I'm with you on that.. just wouldn't be the same 'shine' on it really. Also A few of the experts were saying that losing maybe wasn't a bad thing as he can learn better from his mistakes while still so young and not go into next year being the defending champion.

Williams have said it's a small matter, nothing worthy of DQ, probably a fine similar to what Hamilton got for using the wrong tyres, no performance gain for the drivers, if anything team points docked at the most.

I'd like to think that it would only effect Constructors points for both parties to be honest, providing it's proven that neither driver is at fault of course.

Kimi deserves this world title, he's worked extremely hard to it - to have it taken away from him (or anybody for that matter) in such a manner must be heart wrenching even for someone claimed to be the 'Ice Man'.

Hamilton will be a Champion at some point in his career - it's very easy to see that - but I hope he doesn't win it in this way... This year has been so full of espionage, scandles, cheating and rumours it's been ridiculous... let's just get back to the driving.

If someone becomes World Champion... let's see them win it on the track, not in a court room or a stewards office.

The BBC's report..

Inquiry throws F1 title in doubt

BMW's cars held up Hamilton during the race
Kimi Raikkonen's world title has been thrown into doubt following an inquiry into the cars of BMW Sauber and Williams at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Race stewards are investigating alleged irregularites with the cars' fuel.

Williams's Nico Rosberg was fourth in the race, followed by BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld.

If they were disqualified, McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton would be promoted to fourth, giving him enough points to displace Raikkonen as world champion.

The 22-year-old Englishman went into the race leading the title chase, but finished only seventh after a series of problems.

He dropped down to eight on the first lap after running off the road trying to pass team-mate Fernando Alonso.

And then on lap eight he dropped to the tail of the field when his gearbox slipped into neutral, costing him 40 seconds before it started to work again.

Raikkonen led home team-mate Felipe Massa in a Ferrari one-two to clinch the title by one point from Hamilton.

Alonso finished on the same points as Hamilton, but the Spaniard was classified as third on countback.

That's BBC, British Biased Corporation. That's what they WANT to happen, because of their pre-race hype about it all was all in vain because their hero didnt win :)

True, had to laugh at James and Martin today, Martin was suggesting if Lewis got into 6th then Alonso should park his car up so Lewis can come 5th, same Martin that slated MS for team orders by the way, then we had James willing the Williams and BMW to crash into each other, nearly creamed his pants anytime they got close, pathetic really.

Must admit it was pretty bad about that and same with saying Felipe would move over for Kimi :( I mean Felipe is a bloody good racer and should race to win. I understand Kimi still won and did by strategy, no orders like the commentators seemed to think they would.

I was quite disgusted at that. He wanted 2 drivers to crash into each other, and that is pathetic. Truly appalling. I said to my dad "team orders aren't allowed, they were up in arms when ferrari did it in 2002", but with Hamilton, I guess it's allowed right ;)

At no time have they done anything but look out for lewis hamilton.

Exactly. Look at what happened in both Hungary and Japan, Lewis benefitted a great deal by both of those decisions.

On recent FIA form it should be "drivers didnt know, lets just fine them and remove their constructors points".

Next year the mclaren wont get near the ferrari and kimi will be unstoppable. :)

It should be interesting.

If Alonso leaves, then his "effect" should be removed from McLaren and they should be back to their normal (2nd/3rd best car/driver combo).

Another way of looking at it would be that next year the Ross Brawn/Schumacher effect will be totally removed from the 2008 Ferrari. 2008s Ferrari will be all Raikonnen/Massa's.

If Alonso stays (which is still possible), I think McLaren will be in for another strong showing next year.

Just wait and see, I guess.

For those that can't get enough of Hamilton :

BBC 1 @ 23:05 - 'Lewis Hamilton: Billion Dollar'
Story of the rise of Lewis to F1

Turun Sanomat the Finnish paper which is normally very reliable is stating that BMW and Williams passed the tests, but someone has started a rumour they failed and it's spread like wildfire.
