GT 5: Prologue Demo 20th Oct

Going to experiment a little more myself. Ive driven the Evo most and find it turns in nicely handles ok but even with the AI on Pro setting and traction control turned to 0 im still taking 1st place just after the hairpin on the first lap going on to an easy win.
I think its a matter of using either the best normal tyre or the least best racing tyre to find a balance of reducing grip of the car to increase the difficulty but perhaps at the expense of having a car a lot less fun to drive. Its the only solution i can see to help balance a players skill to that of the AI and increasing the difficulty by doing so.

Replays:
The problem even with this is that the AI dont seem to challenge each other much either looking at the replays and even the replays of FUJI and SPEEDWAY from the demo mode show very little if any overtaking among AI cars, worries me a little.

When i set the tyres to R1 i started to get some fun out of the demo, the physics and lack of impact damage are miles behind F2. Graphically its a no brainer, GT5p looks miles better, the colours and lighting let F2 down and GT5p car models are in a different league.

I still dont see GT5p being anything special on release but lets hope the year they have to sort out GT5 will add better physics and if not a full damage model (that i think it needs but doubt it will get) some form of reaction when you crash into things.

The A.I. and damage is what surprised me in a negative way, I thought the A.I. was way better and that damage modelling was in the game, or maybe they put that in the full GT5 release?

In my books PGR4 is the game to beat, forget even the lush graphics and weather or the specialised 5.1 audio, its AI will put up a bit of a challenge on Hardcore and its the most fun racing game ive played in ages. The AI in FM2 was very badly flawed and i gave up on it early on, PGR4 on Hardcore from the very beginning throws in some tough races or goals.

Latte, that's exactly what i've been doing. I've been switching the rear tyres to S2's to make it a bit harder for myself. However unlike in forza i do find the oversteer very difficult to hold or correct.

I agree, oversteer correction has been more and more difficult with later GT games, I like my cars to be a little oversteering without TCS/ASM.

I also think that the D-pad oversteer corrections will be more difficult than in GT4 which was more difficult than GT3 but that means that more setup tweaking is required.

Oh and adding to my dislikes in the demo also i find:

  • The triggers on the ps3 pads just aren't good enough, the slightest touch on them and you seem to go full throttle.
  • The car sounds although good seem really quiet (the annoying tyre screechs dont help this) and when downshifting from high revs, or even letting go of the accelerator the car is almost silent
  • The car handling still isn't anywhere as good as Forza's. The cars feel pretty 'floaty', you dont feel the little nuance's on the track so much, e.g the cambre of a corner doesn't seem to affect your handling round the corner much.
  • Last one (:D) the suspension effect on the cars feel a little too overdone, which im assuming causes the floating sensation. However i can live with this on some of the stock cars, i can imagine it wont feel the same when you've fiddle with the suspension, and on the high end race cars. But c'mon an Evo X isn't going to have jelly suspension is it?

Totally agree on the floating sensation, i mentioned it earlier so nice to see someone else finds it the same too.

The dipping on braking as waay over exhaggerated as well.
Damn were a moaning bunch but i really had high hopes of a great racing experience with 16 cars. At least the proper edition will have online, lets see how well it works before we comdemn the game enterily.

Jesus by the sound of it Why bother making an onther racing game when pgr4 and forza 2 are perfect

Thats not the point mate, every game has it's flaws. Forza is by no means the perfect racing game, it is very good though. However raving about forza is great but i really had massive hopes for GT5 though. Dont get me wrong i still really like it and cannot wait for it to come out, but the gorgeous graphics dont make up for the inferior handling and AI.

People are acting that this is exactly how GT5 will be, Its not GT5, prologue may not be a big difference between it and this demo, but its only ever been designed as a taster for GT5, Prologue is not a final product. Dont think many got a PS3 to play GT5 prologue, GT5 maybe, but not a small taster of the game. When GT5 is released late next year people can say they should have done this or that, or improved this had better looking trees and grass etc. At present it is an unfinished, product perhaps it would be an idea to wait until GT5 is out before comparing it to full games? When GT4 prologue was released it was only bought by the hardcore GT fans and was slated by many reviews for not being worth the money, to me to have 16 player ( 20 on daytona ) online racing is worth the £20-30 GT5 prologue will cost, physics and handling can be improved, but i dont think 16 player online can be added to Forza 2 or PGR 4;) Also being as it is a major Sony release im pretty sure it will have dedicated servers like RFOM and Warhawk, Sony mentioned it a while ago that all major Sony games (with online) will have dedicated servers. If i was as dissapointed with the demo as some on here, I wouldnt bother getting GT5 prologue, as im not sure how much it will change, but i think i'd wait for GT5 and see how that is and then make my choice. Like I said I wonder how well did Forza 2 and PGR4 play a year before release?

Couldn't agree more, like I originally said comparing a demo of a demo to a full game is just nonsense, granted it might not change much if at all in terms of physics and AI by the time the full release comes out, but seriously who knows?

I'll be getting it either way, LOVED the demo :)

I really don't agree with Sony charging for people to play something that's 'not a final product' tbh.

Microsoft does it all the time with their microtransactions. There are content on the game discs that have to be 'purchased and downloaded'. Ever wondered why your 4-5 pound purchase was only a few kilobytes?
