On another sneaky note these should have the Samsung HD501LJ (although we cannot guarantee this) so if you just want an internal drive then simply get the flat bladed screwdriver out and you've got yourself an absolute bargain.

Basically LaCie use whichever drives they can get the cheapest as long as they don't fall to bits. They generally say 8MB in case the drive inside is changed but we know 99.9% these are Samsung and so have the 16MB cache drive in. If we put both and a customer receives a different drive then it stops a whole load of RMAs coming back.

Would these be PATA or SATA drives?

Thanks

We have just checked one of the units to see what drive it has inside and can confirm it is definitely a Samsung HD501LJ.

As you can see from our website this is actually cheaper than the Samsung drive itself so is simply a case of ripping the drive apart and getting the internal drive out.

Great deal - one question though: does it have a fan at the back? A quiet drive is very important to me :)

Cheers,
Nick

for the sake of £1 why not just order the samsung drive and then your gauranteed one?

Its a shame too about the £8 delivery. City Link too. The depot is miles away from my house :(

I suppose I'l have to get one from an online store closer to me.
