New to consoles! 360 or PS3

Would like to get into consoles as I'm bored of gaming on my own, the missus is up for joining in and kicking my backside :)

I was going to go for an Xbox 360 but a guy at work said go for the PS3?

Whats the major difference?

Should I go with my first plan?

Any pointers for a console noob are welcome :D
 
I have both - Hardware wise the PS3 is better, but games wise the 360 is so far infront its laughable (catalogue wise).

If you can wait for some decent games go for the PS3 (if they ever come).

360 has roughly 20 AAA titles - PS3 has roughly ........er........er.....er
 
Cheaper - I disagree on that point to be honest:-

WiFi and Blu Ray come as standard with PS3. But My PS3 is gathering dust - go for the 360, as reliability issues aside, they are awesome.

Uh oh, you've started something now! :p

Personally I'd go for the 360, there are some great deals that can be had right now and it has a great selection of games.

The PS3 is a great machine but is let down a bit by the number of games but this is getting better all the time.
 
I have both.

Had a PS2 and an Xbox and a Gamecube.

Had PS1, Saturn, Dreamcast, and N64.

About as unbiased as you can get.

Get a 360. Current/ Released Games, LIVE, features, lineup for the next 18months, depth and breadth in genre, developer support, controller.

I'd recommend a PS3 but there just aren't enough games. As a blu ray and media player its definately nice, and once MGS4, FF13, White Knight, and a few others are out the libraries will be more balanced (please dont say unchartered). But honestly you buy a console for games first, 360 is where its at.
 
The only thing people complain about the PS3 nowadays is the games.

The games are coming, some are already here. PES is out and you will play that till next year, Ratchet is getting 9's everywhere and Uncharted looks very promising. Not to mention GT5 Prologue coming out soon and Metal Gear Solid 4 (which sounds amazing).

However if your desperate for games right now and you love shooters and racers the 360 is probably the console to go for at the moment. Bioshock is incredible and I really love it, Halo 3 is great and I imagine Mass Effect will be no different.

They're both very good but when it comes down to it next year I can definitely see myself favouring the PS3 more. The DVD upscaler on it is also fantastic.

I would suggest looking through all the previous threads as all this will do is create chaos :D
 
well i would say xbox360 because of the amount of games but youll probably not get to play them because youll be too busy groaning at the umpteenth crash/failure of your console. Just look at the threads on here about it if you need to see. A lot of x360 users are on their 5 or 6th console! If you're happy with that then sure buy it.

but games wise it does beat the ps3 easily....and possibly even in the future :( (and i hate to say it!) coz i havent seen anything spectacular from the ps3 in previews of upcoming games that would persuade someone to opt for it over the 360 in terms of pure games. (not been impressed with mgs4).
 
Even the best titles that are promised on the PS3 are bettered by existing/due 360 games. That will not change anytime soon - it is a tribute to their brand strength that the PS3 -thats primary function is playing games - has sold 6 million units with such a poor selection of titles.
 
PS3:

+ Blu-ray
+ Wifi inbuilt
+ Free online play

- Lack of games

360

+ Plenty of games to choose from

- Poor reliability still to this day
- No Wifi inbuilt - external Wifi adaptor costs £60!
- pay £40 every one year if you want to play online

If you already have wireless in your house then it's a no brainer to get PS3.

How can you not be impressed? :D It's going to be better than the first MGS because they're fixing all the complaints such as over complicated controls and the camera.

It's shaping up to be the best MGS yet and MGS is one of my all time favourite games. There was also recent news about the introduction and ending being something which has never been done in video games, it's being designed by Logan (who did the iPod campaign adverts).

God of War 3 is also rumoured to be released next year.

But the problem is we are talking one game here and one game there - the 360 has a triple A coming out nearly every week(and i have thought about that comment)

Errr no MGS4 will not be better than MGS:TEA (ps1).

Simple really, the enemy cast and all their deaths in MGS 1 had the best cut scenes and writing in pretty much any game ever.

I practically broke down when sniper wolf died.....errr wait I'm a manly man i swear. The ending was just amazing as well. Naomi was smokin' too (I know she's back).

MGS 4 will be amazing but to be better than MGS, they are going to have to ignore what they did with MGS3 and go back to the more limited style of MGS1 and 2 which were, in that order, the best in the series.

BTW MGS1 is my 2nd favourite game of all time.

Anyway back the OP's question BUY A 360.
 
My 2p.

Look for games you'd both want to play then pick that console.

I think you'll find that's the 360 (I did) but it's the way to do it. :)
