Do I really need this process running all the time? Doesn't it get loaded when I run a PB enabled game?

It's loaded up on startup and I can't identify where it is is specified to do that- it's not shown up in MSConfig. I'd rather get shot of processes I don't need.

I got this process when i installed the Crysis beta. It took it off the startup and it still works no problem. So its safe for you to remove it from start-up.

its punkbuster
should be in add/remove
look for punkbuster removal tools or somthing like that

or look in hijackthis for it

its a new anti cheat thing, cod2 uses it, if you end the task when playing it kicks you with a pb error. its a bit annoying having something running that you dont want but id rather have this than valves anti cheat system...

But there is zero need for it to run as a service 24/7, the only reason it now does is due to an admin rights issue in Vista.

Shouldn't be needed anyway. When them services originally appeared as long as you were on a admin account you could disable them and all was fine , as they were just there to let pb work on limited accounts. Now they have to be running even if you're on an admin account  , even though the function of them doesn't seem to of changed.

Also does anyone know how to stop services changing their start up type?. I have both the pb things set to manual and start them before playing and end them after as I don't want them running constantly , but pnkbsterB always sets it self back to automatic start up

i have this aswell. if i disable if on startup i get kicked automatically from BF2 servers
