MSI NX8800GT Official Review from Tweaktown

The noise issue is disappointing, for sure, and although an aftermarket cooler should sort that out, it's another £20+ to fork out.

If I was in the market for a mid-range card though, I would still be tempted, but I'd wait for some more reviews to see really how much better they are than the current revisions of the 8800GTS.

A chinese review that everybody has been quoting, and the tweaktown one with some strange benchmark results for the Pallit GTS wouldn't convince me just yet.

Its impressive to say the least and really makes the gtx almost redundant as im sure the price wont reach gtx levels even if it is higher than people think.
On the side of money personally i think the card is going to be around the £170 mark though i could be wrong as that is just a wild guess, one thing that puzzles me is how well and were the uprated 640mb gts is going to come into this. We thought it was upped to stay between the gt and gtx when infact its just so it can try and keep up with the gt

No the GTS will be above the GT. Same smaller die and hence same clock speeds but with same SP (rumour does still exist though the GTS might have more SP than the GT????) but extra memory (640>512) and full memory bandwidth. Plus I did see one site somewhere where they were saying the new GTS has more TPU (I think from memory) than the GT. Don't know what they are or how important they are.

So the GTS will be quicker than the GT and maybe same price as the current GTS. Nicely fills the gap between the GT and the GTX or the new GTS oc has a good chance of being faster than a stock GTX.

Hence I guess it won't be long before the revised GTX comes out (perhaps kept secret and Nvidia might release the GTX at the same time)

On the current products, yes. I don't see why they would change that policy just for the 8800GT either.

Look at my 2900XT getting it's butt kicked. I need to invest in some patience the next time I buy a graphics card.

It is fun how these DX10 cards can only achieve playable rates on DX9 :p

90fps in Lost planet, 56fps in Company of heroes... seems playable to me?

Fair enough Call of Juarez wasn't great but then it runs slow on everything, DX9 or DX10.

P.S. Gibbo, can we please have some pricing / preorders? :(

I'll be picking up one of these and slapping a VF-900 on, should be upto the job.

I'll be using a different cooler, but yeah pretty much what I'll be doing.

That's enough to put me off.
The cards are still great value for performance, sure, but I really can't stand that noise, and would honestly stop me from using the PC.

V1N.

Same, noise is a real bug bear of mine. Otherwise it's a done deal of a card.

Would have thought a HR-03 thermalright would fit it fine, if so I might have to get me one along with a shiny new 8800GT on Monday :D

That dodgy chinese website which reviewed the card said the HR-03 for 8800 cards definitely doesn't fit.

From memory they measured the mounting holes and said it was the same mount as a 7800 and different to the 8800 cards.

So in theory you need to be looking for a 7800 after market compatible cooler.
