Well the day has finaly come when my 8800GTX has had it first real kick in the teeth and yes it was crysis that has done it. So far its eaten everything i've thrown at it @ 1920 x 1200 but crysis makes it look like a FX5200 when i have it set to full details. Looks like its going to be a upgrade when the 9800 comes out ;).
 
I don't suppose the fact that it is the demo you were using had any bearing on this or any other system variations like amount of ram, cpu speed etc...gulp ?

Running 4GB Ram and a Quad Core QX6700 @ 3.2 and 2 x Raptors in Raid0 and it still was not upto the job :(
 
It was stated earlier that Crysis, like FarCry (when it was first released), won't run at 'full' on current generation hardware as it's designed to take advantage of hardware being released in a few years as well as running current hardware.
 
Hard to imagine what kind of settings it requires to run full then. Anybody care to suggest?
 
Makes me wonder if all this buying very highly priced cards is worth it - we ought to just save our money and buy a 360 instead where all games that come out run fine without the worry. And you can plug them into a HD 42" without thinking "is it gonna stutter".

Not sure about getting a 360, however crisis performance is putting me off buying anything near a high end card at the moment. A cheap x1800 or 7800 would do for everything else I play.

I know how it feels, Ive just spend circ £1500 on my rig and crysis makes it look dated. Crytec should have kept husht and just released crysis when the hardware to play it without any problems is available.

Releasing it now is just going to upset people.
 
Well what would be the point of buying high end hardware if you didn't have any software to show it off that you can actually play?

That was the great thing about Far Cry. I got it when I had a 9500pro and it's been one game where I've seen a tangible improvement with every video card purchase, through 6600GT, 6800GT and X1800XT. And it looked pretty good on the 9500Pro in the first place.

No Crysis for me this weekend. I'm down at the in-laws, typing this on a Pentium MMX 233, with who knows how much ram and Windows ME. It struggles with Word and a couple of web pages open at once...
