Urgent forum admin question for Spie

I hope you might be able to help me. I'm a moderator on a board for Elvis Tributes and Fans and we are having what we think is a spot of bother with the site owner.

As a site owner you might say that the site owner is "God" but the forum in question operates under a veneer of democracy amongst the moderators. The site owner is having communications with an organisation that he had previously agreed not to (long story), and has sent malicious emails to forum members disguised as somebody else. This is a fact but is merely a preamble to my main point: When on holiday with his friend (supposedly the forum manager) the site owner was overheard talking about reading private messages with his wife. The friend (now an ex-friend) challenged him about it and he rapidly backtracked.

Can a top level admin of a forum read Private Messages? I know that this forum doesn't have them but I figure that you and your admin team would know.

Also, when an admin makes a poll in a thread, can top level admin manipulate the results of said poll.

I hope you can take the time to answer and any help you give will be very gratefully received by myself and others.

I can't answer, but it would help if you tell readers what forum software is being used.

No.

Depends what you mean by 'manipulate', but generally no (at least not directly).

This is a question for HG+P tbh, not Spie.

I know polls can be messed about with by admins as seen here one some of the more tounge in cheek polls but im not sure about the PM question

Poll results can be fiddled but they don't on here as a general rule unless it's just a bit of fun :p

Don't know if PM's can be read although I would assume they probably can, doubt the admins / Spie actually would though :)

Have flagged this thread for you so someone with more answers can help though.

Admins can do everything - including reading PMs - on many forums.

I'm afraid if the owner of your Elvis forum has no respect for the membership, then there's nowt you can do bar leaving.

Mods and admins can fiddle with poll details under VB, although we generally don't here (unless it's a joke poll such as "which don is most likely to wear eyeliner*" in which case expect the results to change on a regular basis).
It is possible for an Admin to see who voted on a poll, but it's a PITA.

Re PM's under the current/recent versions of VBB I don't think it's possible (IIRC they are encrypted or something), but i've little doubt it would be possible to set it up so they could be read, and I strongly suspect some other forum software probably doesn't encrypt them.

*I can almost garuntee the result wouldn't show it as Kell_ee001 :p

Certainly not by default.

I currently run two phpBB boards and four SMF boards. In the past I've used XMB, MyBB, Invision and YaBBse, and NONE of those let you read PM's (except an early version of XMB, but they fixed this).
