When I went the week before the weather was excellent, shame I couldn't stay longer to watch other people as I had to get back for the ferry.

Sorry to hear about your trouble Tom0, was it a Rent-Racecar.de Golf?

I did manage to get a part of a lap recorded, not all that spectacular to be honest. I wish I'd got the next lap as I let an M5, I think, past and then spent the remaining 5 miles or so keeping up with him as he was quick on the straights and slow on the bends - with time my nephew giggling the whole time.

Next time I go will be for atleast 4 days, 2 days there mostly spectating, and 2 days for the travelling.

Wow, Just read through the thread. A question if I may.

I went the 'ring May this year in a mates car, back then I only had a Rover 200 or an R6 and I didnt fancy the ride out to Germany. I've now bought a 5th Gen Honda Prelude 2.2 Motegi, and I'm planning a trip back to the Ring for June 25th. (with the intention of driving back through Holland on 26th, 27th and 28th for the Assen Motogp TT.) Anyone interested in this feel free to mail me at [email protected] If theres any interest, maybe we could make this an offical OCUK event?

Did you guys manage to find a source of trackday insurance for the Ring? I've called all the insurance companies I can think of, all refused. Im currently a customer of Highway Insurance through Greenlight. (I tried; Noel Dazeley, Sky etc etc.) Even if its 3rd party insurance only, the prospect of racking up £2000 in charges for damages to the track alone scare me.

I was also told by the sales guy at Greenlight insurance that the German police are clamping down on people they deem not to be insured whilst on track, apparently all uninsured cars are crushed! I know theres the argument that the 'ring is a toll road and all insurance companies must cover it, but (and looking at Tom0) have people had success doing this?

1. The ring is a public road. Your car must be road legal, taxed and insured correctly to be allowed on.

2. Whilst, in theory, you should be covered under your standard policy as it's a public road, in reality all insurance companies have clauses about "racing", "rallying" or "time-trials" and you'd have a hard time proving you were doing none of these. Some even exclude it specifically. I've yet to find anywhere that will do insurance specifically for the 'ring. Basically assume you're uninsured and drive accordingly. If you can't do this then just don't go out.
