Hi all,

I’ve always been an ATI man and I know all the nvidia people are just going to say yes but here goes. Do I sell my 2900XT for an 8800GT? I will be playing latest games such as crysis and in reviews it seems to kick the 2900 into touch. I paid £250 for my 2900 so will i loose much on it with it being about a month old?

thanks guys

PS or should I buy a crossfire board and get a cheap 2900XT tomorrow?

The trouble with the 2900 series is the crap performance with aa, i got a 2900 pro flashed to xt and imo its a pile of ****, wish i had payed the extra and got the 8800gts at the time mines deffo going.

But then you'd kick yourself with the 8800GT being released tomorrow.

If owned a 2900 I'd definately think about flogging it for a loss and move to the 8800GT if the results so far are true.

the flashing makes it run at XT speeds, it appears in bios and windows as an XT, so it will work in crossfire nicely.

to me the 8800gt isn't that much faster than the 2900xt, only about 10-15fps in some games.

Apart from things like...

Half Life 2: Episode One

1920x1200 - 26 fps faster

1280x1024 - 60 fps faster

Prey

1920x1200 - 45 fps faster

1280x1024 - 68fps faster

Company of Heroes

1920x1200 - 37 fps faster

1280x1024 - 52 fps faster

etc.

Selling the 2900xt and getting an 8800GT will cost you nothing, might even make a few quid if you're very lucky but buying another 2900 will cost you at least £120-130.

I say sell up, get the 8800gt and an Accelero S1 cooler (cheap, effective and quiet).

Its going mate going to order a 8800gt and flog the 2900 to a m8 he got a x1800xt so it be a upgrade for him too.

i still say wait 2days to see "real" benchmarks from people for the 8800gt. like with all new card that come out...

benchmark sites i don't trust and never will trust...

I only have XP so personally I see no need to upgrade my 2900XT. It runs Crysis at all high settings (very high not available, is that vista only??) on 1280x1024 which is my monitors max res. If I had a bunch of cash and upgraded my monitor to a 24" 1080p display then I might be tempted if the 2900XT didn't hold up. I'm more then happy with my 2900XT though. Crysis looks beautiful and runs perfectly smooth. I can't see any other game coming out for the next while that will need more performance.

no high is the max for a 2900xt.:(

High is the max for all nvdia and ATI cards in XP, only in Vista can you choose the very high settings, if your referring to the recommended settings in the config file, well that wont stop a 2900 owner from using settings at very high and judging by the shocking performance of even an ultra at very high, they should all be on high anyway.
