Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Official Thread

I'm considering selling mine.

Might whore the achevements though :D

Like Nismo said, I have no desire to play it :(

They take too long to whore, by the time you have them the patch will be out and you will be crying from the beatings your getting. Don't sell it :p

If you deceide to give me a shout and I can give you the online ones.

I disagree i think there are some subtle changes that make it more realistic, for example the general ball movement has been improved, nothing major but it does make for a smoother more realistic game.

Realistic is the complete opposite to what this is.
Ball physics are a mile off (especially obvious when you hit the post), players animation is now totally off compared to ground covered, shots are underpowered, movement is basic, you still don't have total player control (or even close), the movement animations just looks poor, tackling is a joke and that bloody referee's whistle is so annoying blowing ALL THE TIME, then you have to wait for him to re-blow it before taking something adding unnecessary delays to the game.
Oh, and I've never heard such bad in-game music in a game. Ever.

Football! Soccer! Football! SOCCER! Football! Soccer! Football! SOCCER!
I mean, what the ****?

Was everyone (including me) like this about PES6 too? IIRC we all hated 6 to begin with.

Yep.

Konami shoot themselves in the foot as well by releasing the game unfinished and with FIFA being slightly less dire than it usually is creates a bit of unrest until the patch comes around.

Why is it that Pro Evo deserves extensive play before it can even be judged, and yet FIFA can be judged as being the same old **** without putting the same amount of time into it? That's the way it seems to be anyway.

I suppose because its been a trend over the last decade or so and thats what people expect. Probably including me to a certain degree I admit and I apologise for that. :D

Believe me, If PES08 doesnt get sorted ASAP I will join the FIFA bandwagon as well.

No need to apologise, I do understand it in a way.

I've pretty much always found every new version of Pro Evo not to my liking at first, then after getting used to it I generally love it. I just sometimes think maybe FIFA should be given the same chance. I hated the FIFA demo at first, but once I decided I wouldn't be getting Pro Evo it was FIFA or nothing for an up to date footie game, and now after playing it I can say it's a very solid game. I would probably be tempted to give Pro Evo a proper go, but for me it's been coming for the last 2 versions, I have to draw the line somewhere.

It used to be that you could look forward to the new Pro Evo and expect it to be better than the last one, that's not been the case with 5,6 and now 2008 for me. I do still hope that they will exceed Pro Evo 4 at some point, but I no longer expect it.

Now for me, I feel it has improved, not by much admitedly but there has been an improvement to warrant me buying the new version. The problem with me saying that though is that its in my opinion and is completely different to yours which I respect and wont try and shoot you down and prove you wrong.

In a way I wouldnt be too bothered if PES2008 stayed unfinished as it would enable me to try FIFA08! I have been impressed by the amount of praise its recieved even though I havent played it extensively.

I only started with PES 4.

5 is my favourite so far. 6 is probably the worst, but I still loved it and played it lots!

2008 has massive potential, and will probably be my fave once that patch is out.

from what i read everywhere, it seems to me people only having problems with it's online lag mainly. And otherwise it's a good game. Is it me or people blowing it a little out of proportion? Sure i online feature is important but it doesn't break a game, it doesn't affect thousand of students playing it with their friends in halls. Nor does having friends round. So to say this game is the worst one ever etc because of some lag is a little premature and overreacting to me. I'm sure they will fix it like the last one, besides there is the whole side of single player to play as well.

Yep, nail on the head. I said it a little further up the page :)

Have to agree with this, not sure when online MP became the standard. That's not to say I haven't put time into online MP, but the time and fun I've had from either standard MP or SP far outweighs the time I've put into online MP.
I liked 6 to begin with, then it grated on me.
I enjoyed 1,2,3 and 4 thoroughly throughout the year.

My two cents:

ISS Pro - Average (But it was their first attempt)
ISS Pro 98 - Exceptional
ISS Pro Evolution - Exceptional (No other Pro Evo has amazed me as much as this did from the very first time I played it, until the last.)
ISS Pro Evolution 2 - Exceptional
Pro Evolution Soccer - Average (And a huge let down with it being the first PS2 version and expectations being so high.)
Pro Evolution Soccer 2 - Exceptional (Almost the finest version ever, it's a close tie between this and 4 for which I was best at.)
Pro Evolution Soccer 3 - Average (This was my opinion at the time, it was always going to be hard to directly follow 2. I've since gone back to it, now play it regularly and love it. Some elements of 3 are possibly the finest throughout the whole series.)
Pro Evolution Soccer 4 - Beyond exceptional (Just about pips 2 as the best version ever. Still play it today, and probably will for a long time from the looks of things.)
Pro Evolution Soccer 5 - Average (Expected big things from this, instead they changed far too many things that they already had down to perfection.)
Pro Evolution Soccer 6 - Average (Another Pro Evo, another version nowhere near 4. This was when I started to think they may never even match it.)
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Haven't played it enough to give it a fair assessment, nor will I. From what I have played it's average, no doubt it would improve over time, but for me the bar is now at least close to 4, or nothing. I know it won't reach that, which is why I'm not even going to bother.

I would pretty much agree with that list wedgie, but I preferred PES2 over 4, but I think a lot of that had to do with the time it was released and how often I would play it with my friend.
His grandparents were loaded so would have around 8 holidays a year and lived in a massive 8 bedroom house, so whenever they went away (at least 2 weeks at a time) we'd skive college and play games quite literally from 9am til 1am none-stop, daily. Only stops were for breakfast, toilet and takeaway orders (for delivery of course).
