Sorry if this has been posted already, but it's actually possible to enable very high details in XP

If you tweak the configuration files in \CVarGroups\ by copying and pasting the "very high" settings (1st paragraph) IN PLACE of the "high" settings (last paragraph) the game will load the highest possible settings even though the drop-down menus display "high."

The difference between "high" settings and the tweaked settings is immense: shadows are deeper, more realistic; the leaves have better reflective properties, better textures; the colours are better; and the level of detail is simply stunning.
Check it out here:

Some guy has posted comparison images at the bottom of that page, and the difference is amazing! It looks like the bump mapping is only enabled at "very high" settings

Yeah, its amazing to think i can play DX10 features on XP but with better performance, goes to show how lousy Microsoft and crytek are to omit features that can easily be done on XP just to showcase DX10, scumbags.

Didnt bother to check the link or perhaps read the 2nd post? Its actually meant to be pretty damn playable if youve got the setup to play Crysis in the first place :p;)...

ps3ud0

Might check this out as i dual boot, at 1280x1024 on very high i average 19fps in vista 64. On high its 37fps(specifically in dx9 mode as dx10 high i lose about 7fps off the average for some unknown reason). Ill tell you my results when I get back from work.

So... why did people have to go to Vista for DX10?

Wonder if someone will file lawsuit?

I know MS are withing their rights to restrict a feature to an OS, but still think someone will kick up a fuss.

Have to say - one of the main reasons of initially choosing Vista was for DX10 but I wouldn't change it now as I'm very happy with it and don't really want to go back to XP regardless.

Edit: I think we need to see Vista DX10 screenshot along side the XP Tweeked screenshot, both at same res.

I think it just unlocks the higher settings, go read the link. ;)
But I'd like to see this compared to Vista on the same high settings, with true DX10.

I might have to have a fiddle with this when I get home. Shame it's only 9:30am =/ haha

I was amazed about the difference from medium to high settings quite frankly! And the fact my rig can still play the damn thing!

Anyones interested my rig is a 4400+ @ stock, 2 gig of gskill zx (pc3200), and an x1900xtx @ stock.

Damn good investment if I say so myself. :)

Drop a 8800 GT in it and you'll be away ;)
