Sorry if there are posts about this elsewhere, but there are so many different Crysis posts, mainly about problems and performance etc., that I can’t wade through them all.

So I’m just wondering, issues aside and for those who have it running okay, what’s it like as a game? Any good?

like far cry with better graphics, that is if your comp will allow it :(

demo level not as free roaming as I thought, it is like Far Cry. But can't really complain.

Weapon attachement system is well thought out

main new thing is the physics which are pretty cool, ie jump on roof and punch through it.

AI isn't as amazing as I was led to believe, have not seen a shooter game that beats FEAR yet

that's my two cents

Still cant play it to comment

get to the 7 days later white screen and then crash. Nvidia drivers in SLi are to blame i think

i had a quick blast on the demo last night... it is a lot like far cry... an island with mountains and forest... baddies in jeeps and boats... i wonder if it will be spoilt by stupid monsters halfway thru the game?!

i also had a quick blast on cod4 and was really impressed by that...

best game ive played in a long time......my first run through i just thought ok nice graphics but now ive played it through plenty of times its became real good fun.
the graphics are great but thats not all the game is about...its actually great fun to play too.

One of the best FPSes I've played in a long time. The gameplay is very very good, especially when you try to approach it ala Predator. Hunting your prey stealthily and killing them off one by one without them having no idea what the hell is murdering them.

It's also great if you are like me and will try to spare them all by using only the tactical attachment (tranq darts) and not being seen at all. The full game will see the Koreans you spared come back later to fight the aliens with you. The slow-reloading tranquilizer darts and relatively short knock-out time add an excellent layer of strategy to handling groups and trying to get past them without being seen. I think Metal Gear Solid fans will appreciate this and Delta mode.

It is a shame Crytek didn't include by default the DX9 graphical tweaks recently seen and shown by demo users, as that would have reduced a LOT of the graphical and performance complaints, and resulted instead in a lot more discussion of actual gameplay.

one thing I tried was swiming far off to the big cruisers - I get a warning message of shark infested waters but was unable to find any :( could have been fun

You might want to check out the official Crysis demo thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17781142

There’s 183 pages of comments about the demo in there.

Well there's about 20 pages of commentary and about 160 pages of:

"I'm downloading it now, I'm installing it now, I'm playing it now, this is me playing the demo."

Then:

"It's rubbish, I hate Crytek/Microsoft/Nvidia/etc.."
"It's amazing, spoooge"

Enter at ye own risk. :)

Anyway, back O/T. As a game it's pretty good, I can't help but draw the parallels to Far Cry - but then you would expect that from Crytek when their genre seems to be "archipelago first person shooter". There's a lot of very nice touches, and some really smart gameplay features and that's just the demo. I must admit, I'm a bit disappointed that the hype machine has yet again started to ruin the release of another game. It murdered HL2:EP2 IMO, and I fear it may do the same to Crysis (/me stops reading anything about games now). Hopefully all this performance, backwards scaling, DX10 Vista/XP, price nonsense gets sorted out with 1.1 or sooner anyway.

2p.

Far too much focus on performance and computers in that thread. We _need_ a thread (this one) focused on actual gameplay, because Crysis is one of the unsung FPS greats this year.

I found the demo great and highly replayable in maany different ways, I ain't done that with a demo for a while. There are issues with AI/physics/shadows however which I hope they fix as that would make the game even better. Can't wait for the final game. Wish I had the money for the collectos edition(I was hesitating on that before)

Once the quick switching of nano-suit functions and different postures are gotten used it's awesome just sneaking around and taking peeps out from angles.

edit: thought about making one of these threads meself but you beats me to it :/

for a demo its fine, its a tech showcase if you have the hardware but in all honesty after the suit novelty wears off its a generic fps .... like i said in the main thread we'll need to play the whole game before giving it a true review, so for now its nothing more than farcry in new clothes which for some will be fine but for others like me, Dues Ex will still sit at the top of the pile when it comes to innovation, content and above all gameplay

Plays as good as it looks.
So many ways to go about the level. I've snuck through the hole level only killing a few people, imagine I could have done it without a single kill.
You can go rambo and just shoot everything blowing up as much as possible, vehicle carnage, making the most, ramming vehicles into others works great ;)

My favourite has to be making the most of physics and throwing the enemys, its just so fun :D

What with messing about in the editor so I can play through with more weapon addons, such as the nade launcher, better scope and the incendiary ammo, aswell as the sniper rifle its great fun. Can't wait for the full game.

I was worried that it wouldn't be as good as I had hoped, it turns out its better than I was expecting :D

Great post:D

Agreed, I thought it was absolutely supurb. Replayed it several times now, with different tactics each time. Really cannot wait untill the full release

I have never played Farcry bar the demo so I can't compare them, maybe thats a good thing.
It runs amazingly well considering im on S939, all on high except post processing as the motion blur causes lag everytime I look around.

There is just so many ways you can play it, the metal gear solid people can go all stealthy if they want and the quake/unreal people can go "maximum armor" and just rush in and hope for the best.

I had no intrest in it before the Demo came out, but it's one game im looking forward to completing.

I do think it's a shame people are moaning the cant play it on 16xaa on the cinema size screens :p just knock a few options down if you have to and enjoy the game. Fraps? whats that.
