IPTV for 360 - a tie up with BT

On top of that, what about people who dont live smack bang next to their telephone exchange and cant get full 8mb speeds?

Then no IPTV for you... I mean what kind of question was that? You want MS to magic some way of you getting IPTV?

iPhone seems to have done very well in the US despite it being locked to one provider. (I know, I have read the stories about how loads have been unlocked)

I am with BT (though I hate it) but I know how others must feel about not being able to receive this service. I can only hope that they will release the video maketplace along side this so that you don't feel to left out.

Having a exclusive service benefits both company's though. BT get more customers (people are fools and will move) and MS gets a jump start on the IPTV service BT already have.

Sounds a bit like BT were going to launch a phone service on the psp but never heard anything about it since, probably wont happen.

With BT Vision - IP traffic for IPTV does not count toward your download quotas.

Also, freeview quality IPTV only needs 2mb bandwidth.

I have had BT Vision since Jan and it works - it works brilliantly.

Those of you with a 360 & BT Internet are in for a treat.

The problem is, most of us have been stung by 12/18 month contracts before, received terrible service and had one hell of a battle getting released (hello BT and Tiscali, you bum holes) I'll never go with BT again, or sign another contract for that matter.

Microsoft have gone with BT Broadband for one main reason (in my opinion). They are the biggest UK ISP.

Why on earth would Microsoft look anywhere else?? If you want a service to take off, you look for the biggest market. It would be a waste of time if Microsoft were to announce that IPTV was only going to be launched* on BeThere with there tiny, tiny share of the UK's broadband market.

* I say launch as I very much doubt that IPTV will remain accessible from BT Broadband only. Logic would have it released to ISPs on BT Wholesale next followed by LLU providers thereafter. Still, anything can happen if the ISP's are willing to invest and there customers actually want such a service.

No-one mentioned contracts.

If you want this IPTV on your 360 you have to be with BT, so forced yes.

Thats like saying sky force you to buy sky so that you can run skybybroadband(was the name, not sure if its changed) on your pc.

Look at it like this - its a subscription service that comes with part of BT's package. So why should you have a right to it with any other ISP?

If you want it you can buy BT, thats a choice, you dont have to buy it, much like you dont have to be offered it. Its not like the IPTV was available before hand, so you're hardly being robbed of anything.
Its not videomarketplace, its something entirely different..

But the point is, if you want IPTV via your 360 you are FORCED to sign a up with BT.

Yeah I know. It's like how Sky forced me to go with them because I wanted all the channels which only Sky offer. Life is harsh sometimes...

TY tobes & Mr Men.

Its no different to an exclusive game to be honest, its just a service, fair enough you'v already bought a 360, but this is BT's service, not microsofts.
IPTV is a new thing, dont worry, in a few years it will be a lot more widespread so you will have more choice then, but right now you either get BT and the IPTV(and crap internet) or keep what you'v got and be perfectly happy :)

MS have gone to BT because they have major coverage which is simple, BT probably offered a few million to take on IPTV and then MS will offer it round.

No company will turn down a chance to make money, compare it to the iphone I bet 02 paid millions to get that contract where BT would have been ok we will take it for a million.

And if I want to play GT5 HD I am FORCED to buy a PS3, really can't see what your line of attack at MS is this time.
Typical idiotic analogy from you, what a surprise. And you were one of the wingers who moaned that if they wanted a PS3 they were forced to pay extra due to the unwanted Blu-Ray player. Actually you just moaned anyway even though you had no intentions of buying one. The fact is, I ALREADY have a 360 which will be IPTV 'enabled' but unable to use the feature without paying through the nose or and signing up to BT for 12 months.

I was interested in this IPTV but I'm not going into a 12 month contract with BT, simple as.

I was looking forward to 360 IPTV as it's been announced for a while now, but I'm never going with BT, why couldn't they use some of the money from our gold subs and make it available to everyone?

I have never said nothing of the sort about a PS3, typical lies from you then :o:rolleyes:

Still your analogy is so badly flawed everyone can see it, it's a bit like moaning you can't play Halo 3 on your Halo 3 enabled console without buying the game. How about you lessen the insults though, thanks. Your console is not IPTV enabled unless you make it so, just like your PS3 pad is not rumble enabled unless you pay to make it so.
