just had my front window smashed by little kids...

The problem is that there is no community spirit anymore. When I was a kid and I went round knocking on neighbours doors they knew who I was. They had seen me playing out in the street and around my estate, they knew my parents.

My neighbours many of whom would have been in their 50's - 60's at the time joined in with the fun, pretending to be scared etc. They made it magic and I looked forward to it every year.

That is why it is worth making the effort, for the kids who are worth while, who have made the effort and want nothing more than fun.

Antisocial behaviour should be banned, not halloween.

Do I remember what it was like ot be 10? Yes. I didn't swear, wouldn't dream of vandalising anything, and was polite and respectful of my elders. I also knew the difference between right and wrong, even at that tender age.

How many kids can you say the same for nowadays?

Finding it hard to back up your claim?

Me for a start.
You've obviously changed your ways otherwise you wouldn't go around thinking of everyone as a stereotype.

If you stop to think for a minute you will realise that 'all the kids' out on the streets this time of night are yobs, becasue, well, they are. Most of the good kids/teens will be at home, around a friends, at the cinema etc being good.

Not all teens are yobs. It's far from it. (Unless you live in Liverpool. ;))

No **** sherlock, it's those kids i'm talking about, the ones out trick or treating! I obviously don't think ALL kids are yobs, that's just silly.

I've set up a few traps at our place. I've covered the stairs in diesel and I've shorted out the doorbell so the brass switch is now live! And the street light has been adjusted so its now off!!!

that should show the buggers :D

Yea its a bit like home alone style.

Well, it's started again! Next door have just had a firework pushed through their letterbox because they had the cheek to leave the lights on and not answer the door to the group of about 10 yobs.

I bet Jake, their 5 month old baby, really loved that.

Blighter mate, sorry for the off-topicness, but have you considered doing the OcUK map using Virtual Earth (microsoft)?

It's more up-to-date and has better highdef imagery compared to GoogleMaps.

It's much more flexible too :)

Drop me an email if you want, I do loads of work with it (since its my job and all)

nikebee [@] gmail.com

replace the spaces and the [ ] of course :)

You can only live in hope that the kids doing it mess up big time and have a firework related death/life ruining injury.
Everybody does stupid stuff when they are kids, not everyone throws explosives about...

What do you mean... it's a laugh innit? Stop being so gumpy and live a little... it's all fun and games!

Maybe for the jobs, but not for the small child, or old people, or people that don't like little scumbags.

What some people seem to forget about oranges is they aren't the softest of fruit, seriously, throw one at someone, it'll really hurt, throwing one at a window will break it.

You made it sound like all kids are yobs by adding the "How many kids can you say the same for nowadays?".

People only notice the yobs nowadays because the good kids are never recognised.

And shoving a firework through someones door, are you serious!?

That however, is not. :-/
What in the hell is the point in doing something like that? :(

Put up a sign stating that this is private property and trespassers will be responded to with armed force.

Lots of houses around where we live have those sort of signs, usually by security companys like ADT

"Tresspassers face armed response"

There's a lot of lovely authoritarian personalities shining in this thread. Lovely.

Gimme a break. The only people in this thread are people who have had enough of their car's being vandalised, windows being smashed and getting abuse on the street.

Don't believe me? I suggest you take a wander over to motors and have a look at L0rdmikes thread.

blighter, use your knouse, it was a rather general comment aimed specifically at the ever increasing mass of young miscreants littering our neighbourhoods. The good kids are never recognised in the media because they are just that... good. Bad kids make headlines because of the atrocious things they do.

And shoving a firework through someones door, are you serious!?

Welcome to the real world.

There's also been a lot of not-so-lovelyness in these thar threads as well, which I think give grounds for said personalities.

Car windows smashed
Fight started when owner of car confronts him
Firework through letterbox
Firework launched at house
Orange smashed window

Any more? It's not surprising there's a lot of cheesed off folk with this kinda thing going on, and that's just what's being reported on this forum which is a small cross section of the population.
