They seem to be the new lexus lights, are they road legal to fit to any car? I seem to remeber something about it but I can't recall what it was about - inabilty to dip them etc?

Flame away if I'm way off :p

Unfortunately it's completely legal.

Nothing more chavvy than a small hatchback with angel eyes :( I die inside every time I see one :(

As chav as they may look, and as crap as they look, some people do actually buy the headlights to improve vision at night.

A small sacrifice in terms of cosmetics was worth the sacrifice when it came to improved vision at night, for me anyway.

Standard headlights can be improved vastly with higher frequence bulbs, I've never found the tea lights on my 106 to be a problem across the Cheshire plains.

Some cars have really poor lighting as standard, which no ammount of high-power halogen bulbs can cure.

Wait a sec do you mean the halo "angel eye" rings you can buy and fit around the headlamp replacing the standard dipped "presence" beam or a complete new headlamp unit with halos built in like BMW stock ones ?

You can get a kit that replaces the bulbs and power units within the standard lights and transforms them...About £140 iirc.

Will Holman runs them in his mk1 V8 Capri (certainly a car not renowned for it's lights...)

I've today fitted a HID kit to my Avensis as the standard lighting is so poor that I considered them dangerous. Just waiting for it to get dark so I can see the difference. The headlamp units are projectors already, so blinding people shouldn't be an issue. I will be getting a light pattern assessment at the local garage though.

I didn't know there was two ways of doing it - do they look exactly the same or can you distinguish between the two?

DIY ones are rings you buy off ebay, and fit to your standard headlights, these look even worse than the whole units.

What is also sad is that it is legal to use your sidelights at night when travelling under lit streetlights. So everyone drives around with just their Angel Eyes on.

Angel Eyes are sidelights and do not increase or improve your vision in any way. They project no light onto the road.

They are chav when not factory.

I've seen some that look good whilst others look crap - the blue tint "white light" ones look crap as the BMW ones are more yellow and neutral and look much nicer IMO, they are just like the normal dipped low beam but obviously in ring form and look professional.

The white light aftermarket ones just look out of place.

1: Aftermarket rings, look alright on the Ci Sport models really.

2:but do NOT look alright on manky old Bimmers or anything but a Ci e46!

3; Original eyes look nice tbh on the cars they came with.
