Think-tank says 'downgrade Christmas'

I dont even have a religion but I still celebrate christmas! Stuff like this really ****** me off. Do these people have nothing better to do than try to ruin everything?

Chris

their think tank is most certainly not fight!

although christmas recently has been crap for my family, i still have fond memories of it being an awesome time and having so much fun

they shouldn't try and take that away man (i feel like a hippy writing thins), people all over the country spends months in preparation for christmas, it's become part of out way of life, it wont go away without a fight hopefully

... spread the love man

the idea of this thinktank is just dumb and typical of our useless government.

Ban all thinktanks and burn them.

Jesus was actually born in June ;)

Or never born in the first place tbh.

PC culture is getting silly now. Why would celebrating christmas offend other people from a different religion? If it does, they are clearly in need of lightening up.

Do english people get offended by Eid ul-Fitr (The end of Ramadan I think) /Chanukah/"Insert non English traditional religious festival here"? I don't.

Surely the only cause for offence is if people from different religions were being forced to celebrate Christmas? Which as far as I see is not happening...

It hardly holds any of it's original religious meaning these days anyhow. I know my family merely use it as a set date for seeing each other all in one place and having a good time.

However the consumerism that now surrounds it is a bit overboard imo.

Or never born in the first place tbh.
...snip

Please don't start that, he was born, he did live, he did die on the cross to save you, as well as me YAY!

To be brutally honest, this country doesn't really celebrate Christmas any more. Christmas is about celebrating Gods wonderful gift of Christ, and the grace that can be found in him. But now, Christmas to most people is about family and presents. Spending time with family certainly isn't a bad thing though.

Please don't start that, he was born, he did live, he did die on the cross to save you, as well as me YAY!

All a matter of opinion I'm afraid. If you believe that, that's fine - it's up to you, good luck with that.

Don't however take up the position that because you believe it, I must or should. Every man is entitled to his own belief. I would gladly defend anyone's right to this (No matter what they believe)

“Christmas is about celebrating Gods wonderful gift of Christ, and the grace that can be found in him.”
No its not for many people. That was only tagged on recently to Christmas and only apples to a some people. It’s not the true meaning of Christmas.

OK, I don't think I worded my post as respectfully as I should have and for that I apologise.

I do recognise that everyone has free will given to the by God to believe in what they want or what they see as being right.

There is historical evidence though, to show that there was someone called Jesus living at that time, in that area. :)

I believe that there was a man called Jesus living in that area at that time, I just don't believe he was the son of god, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that. (Not being hostile towards you as it could look that way)

I wouldn't have taken it as hostility anyway and in a certain sense I don't have a problem with it.

What I would say though, is that I urge you to look into it and consider what it would mean should it be true. I'm not trying to pressure you, I cant force you into believing.

It's this kind of liberal wishy-washy crap spouted by England-hating ***** which really ***** me off

I *really* have to bite my tounge because this is really making my blood boil

The said ******* truth is that 99% of people DO NOT want this

I wouldn't dream of going to another country and demanding that they do nothing patriotic or in keeping with their culture

We are seen as a pathetic walk-over by other countries and this is just not helping. It's people like this which lead to extremist parties like the BNP gaining so much support

Interesting point there. Take away the ingrained racism from the BNP, and you've got a political party that ethically is very sound. Why not start a new party on this basis?

”What I would say though, is that I urge you to look into it and consider what it would mean should it be true.”
What if it’s not true and Jesus was a big con artists and by worshiping a false god he made up you’re going to some version of Hell? Not that I am saying he is a con artists just that he might have been. There where a lot around his time doing the same thing as him.

Ok, you're entitled to that opinion.
Irrespective of what you believe, I was simply asking people to consider it for what the message is.
You are entitled to believe what you wish, but everything should be given some thought.

Like I said, I'm not trying to force anyone, I cannot make you believe, you have to come to it yourself.

Please don't take me as being argumentative or disrespectful, that isn't my intention.

Think tank? Pen pushing red tape government busy body curtain twitchers more like.

**** off.
Bloody right. The IPPR can go take a running jump. Religous tolerance, absolutely, giving up British traditions, religiously-oriented or not, no.

Ban religion, keep wintermas. Jobs a good 'un.
Out please. The whole Winterval debacle from a few years ago was an utter joke. It's Christmas or nothing, the end. The politicians that had that idea can go join the IPPR.

I'd be quite happy if Christmas in it's current form was banned tbh, but not because of any religious reason. Simply because it's mutated into some over-commercialised ugly monster. It should be about family get-togethers and enjoyment like it used to be, rather than who can invent the latest so-called must-have piece of tosh that ends up in the bin a few weeks later when little Johnny has got bored with it (or broken it).

/diatribe out.
