How noisy r the fans??

when it boots from cold its really noisey, after about 40 mins it goes quite, r they ment to be like this? only fitted it wed

mine is loud (fan at 100%) for like 3 seconds on boot but then calms down what temps are you getting?
and yes the fans can be very loud though not when running at low speeds, uninstall your drivers and reinstall them maybe use driver cleaner to rid any remnance.
have you got riva tuner installed either?

Aye when u first switch on it sounds like someone holding a drill up and setting it away, like that WKD advert with the guy doing the robot with the drill, only lasts a couple of secs though, then they go silent, even silent underload, never heard mine at all, just like me old GTS, idles around 57, and underload about 72-74. :)

My old ATI x1900xt-x use to max out the fan on boot up....

I think it because the fan control is done by the GPU drivers...So the fan can't slow down till the drivers has been loaded...

Fan control is not done by graphics drivers, I remember with my 2900, the fan speeds changed no matter were it was in windows or out of windows.

If it was the case the fan was controlled by the driver the fan would be on 100% duty untill windows had booted and loaded as this is when the GRFX drivers are loaded.
I think and this is just me guessing, that the card autos at 100% duty because when the card is first powerd on with the pc it may experiance a burst of voltage/power(?) wich in turn could cause a sudden rise and drop in temp so the fan max's for a second or two to deal with this and then when everything settles the fan does aswell.
All these settings will be written to the GPU bios.

It probably runs at full pelt on startup so you know its working, they are that quiet id be worried if i never heard it when i switched on, its like when i got me GTS, after id been gaming a while and i heard **** all coming from it, i was glad it ran full pelt at startup so i could hear it, you dont wanna be switching on with silence thinking ahh its ok fans running, and its not, be tata gfx card. :p

its because the fan control on nvidia cards is controlled by the drivers hence why during post or in dos the fan runs full pelt, even in windows with no drivers installed it runs full pelt.

I can vouch 100% that without windows loaded or any drivers these cards do not run at "full pelt" after about 3 or 4 seconds i can happily browse through my mobo's bios screen without hearing it at full pelt. even when the bios is posting and finding all the connected drives it doesnt run at "full pelt" its writtent to the bios and not the drivers.

well every nvidia card ive had since the FX5200 has ran full pelt without drivers loaded.

my gts was the same it ran full pelt at start up but this was for a period of at most 5 seconds, after this weather windows was loaded or not the card would revert to standerd fan speed.

they run at 100% for a couple seconds while the card starts up, you will notice that your monitor comes out of standby after its slowed down

the graphics cards 'POST' before the bios and I assume its done to clear dust out, I dont think the card is going to get the chance to heat-up in 4 seconds.
It could also be so you know its working as suggested.

Mine didn't, i uninstalled my drivers before popping the card in, only ran full pelt at post for about 3 seconds, then it fell silent, was even silent in windows with no drivers.
