PC zone review in - 88% 'Compelling and Unique'.

I am now in Chapter 2 - Temple district and loving it. However I have one and only one complaint. It is when a quest says meet some one somewhere and you go there and they are not there because it is day/night and they will only be there when it is night/day. However it is not that clear cut. I had to meet one of the quest characters at a location and it was the characters day job - so I figure they will be there between 9 and 5. Well no, they turned up at 10:30. I know it is not a big deal but you start to think the quest is broken or you are doing something wrong. Also another guy goes 'I will wait here every morning', well that strictly is about 10-12 hours. What do you interpret to be morning mate? Are you an early riser? Cause I was here at 8:30 until 9 and you were not here. he turned up about 10 I think. I think it should say in the quest log 'morning (between 9-11)' or something.

Anyway, this is my only beef with an otherwise excellent game. Love the sword combat, do not mind the load times etc etc.

Speed up your saves and loads

I am not sure if it has been posted are that you are aware that the quick saves and auto saves are not like most other games where they save over the same file. In The Witcher it creates a new 25MB save every time so if you have not been deleting your save files it will slow down your saves and loads times considerably. Even though I was deleting some of my saves in game but when I checked my save folder there were 125 saves totalling 1,9GB. The problem was that this was slowing in game saving and loading because the game has to check all the file names or something first which for me was an additional 3 to 7 seconds delay. So do yourself a favour and keep your save files to the minimum.

You beat me 2 it. Just finished reading PCZONE and logged in to post the review :). I can't help feel from the review that they fired it up for 2 or 3 hours then wrote the review. Usually if they actually complete something they mention whether the ending was good or bad etc. Also the review is only 1.5 pages (apart from the pics) wherby Crysis gets half of the magazine!

Great to see it got a decent review. Shame they tucked it right at the back of the reviews. They usually do that when they havn't fully played it IMO. There are so many big titles released this month i reckon in any other issue the review should have been twice as long and been the main game review.

Anyhow firing Witcher back up

Take care

Yes I subscibe to it but am thinkng about cancelling it. I think to get the scoup they sometimes review beta versions (only guessing tho).

Dont get me wrong its a decent review I just think it was hidden away abit and should have been longer. According to their RPG chart it comes in at no5 of all time tho :)

Cysis got 92% if I remember correctly.

COD 4 got a good review too (cant remember score, mag is upstairs under the cat!)

whats above it?

I guess i should be used to FPS type games always receiving higher scores (certainly higher coverage and interest) than other game types.

Firstly as pointed out I corrected my post to show Cysid as 92 % (its my old age)

Just kicked the cat out so...

Above Witcher in the chart (with scores)

1. Oblivion - 95%
2. KOTOR - 94%
3. Morrowind - 94%
4. Deus Ex 94%
5. The Witcher - 88%
Knocked into 6th place is NWN2 - 86%

Hope this helps :)

1) Oblivion, 95%
2) Knights of the Old Republic, 94%
3) Morrowind, 94%
4) Deus Ex, 94%

With the exception of Oblivion... its an impressive line-up. (i dont rate Oblivion as highly as the others) I'd rather play The Witcher over Oblivion any day.. but anyway not so bad i guess...considering PCZ isnt really a PC RPG mag. (more like PC FPS mag but thats just the chip on my shoulder :D)
