Weekend Football *SPOILERS* 3rd-5th November

It's a different game now. Ferguson got some donkeys and had to buy specific areas, Benitez inherited a pretty strong squad anyway, what he's bought though is laughable.

This is also the same guy who's stuck with Voronin and Kuyt despite being awful, where as Crouch has performed and still starts on the bench.

Baz will be here in a bit to defend the signings because they didn't have the money to buy anything better :p

You mean........... sell all the players he's bought already?
Apart from Riise of course, they are otherwise all his buys.

You really need to find a better source for your transfer info, Rafa didn't sign Finnan either.

Regarding the players serlex mentioned: Arbeloa's been a decent buy and has had a great start to the season, Pennant looks a different player compared with last year and has been unlucky with his injury, Voronin's not up to much but nobody expected him to be as he was a free transfer brought in to bolster the squad (but has still done more than Crouch) and finally Kuyt, ive said before that he's not the player to lead our attack but is more than capable to partner Torres or be part of our squad.

@Nokkon: Like i mentioned above Crouch hasn't performed, in fact he's been shockingly bad.

I like Benitez i think hes a decent manager, but like they say, you cant polish a turd

:D

Liverpool didn't seem that interested yesterday until crouch came on, Kewell and Crouch changed the game, we couldn't understand why he didn't change it until late in the game. Liverpool started to look dangerous and really should have won it late on. I would have taken a point before the start of the game and i think it was a fair result.

I dont see a crisis at Anfield TBH, despite being bloody poor so far, we are only 6 points of the top, and we still have a game in hand over the mancs and chelski lot.

As for Crouch, im sorry but as soon as we start to play him, we'll be whingeing and moaning about him too, he simply isnt good enough, Kuyt imo is going through a crisis of confidence he just doesnt seem to know where the goal is.The whole team seems to be going through this bad patch, hopefully the likes of Kewell can add something back into the team. Its par for the course for us really, we normally have our bad patch about now:p

I was impressed with Blackburn tho, Santa Cruz looks good upfront, and Samba is immense, buy of the season so far.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp fears the African Cup of Nations could wreck their European ambitions.
Four Africans played as Pompey beat Newcastle 4-1 on Saturday to strengthen their top four credentials.

But the prospect of losing the likes of Sulley Muntari, Papa Bouba Diop and John Utaka in January fills Redknapp with dread.

"We're strong but we'll lose four or five players for the Nations Cup and that will leave us short," he said.

Fair play to Portsmouth, they're doing well. But he signed all three of those this summer knowing full well the nations cup was round the corner so he has absolutely no right to complain :)

Riise and Finnan are good players. I'd agree with all the others, though I also said they were rubbish when you signed then and I've not seen anything to change my mind.

I've seen a few Liverpool fans bad mouth Riise lately, but from watching him I don't know why? He's performed better in the LB spot than Aurelio or Arbeloa have for Liverpool. Over the last 5 or so years he's been pretty consistant too, but it's well known Benitez doesn't like him.

But is Benitez' opinion really worth listening to?

Take note of the people that watch him every week mate - he is poor, positionally inept, and persists in pumping long hopeful balls up the park to no-one. You always get this - people seeing him whack in a few 30 yarders during his career and think he's a world beater, yet when he can't do the basics defensively, it's irrelevant. If you don't go the game week in week out, you can't judge the player. Can give you the example of Petrov at Athletico Madrid, i always thought he looked a class act, yet many Athletico die hards will tell you he's incredibly inconsistant. Same goes for many players....

Aurelio is the class act at left back but we can't keep him fit. Arbeloa is a better prospect than Riise though, didn't give Messi a sniff in the Barca games last year, colossal.

Think most match goers will tell you that Arbeloa was the star man for the first 6 games, very impressive.

I'm not a Liverpool fan and dont hate the club either. I'm neutral towards them. But I have to say Kuyt is proving to be one heck of a turkey.

.

It was a throwaway comment, but not to worry, i'll correct my mistake and post a retraction.

"all the players mentioned, bar riise and finnan were Rafas buys, so what you are saying is, sell all the players he has just bought because they are rubbish as well as the players who were there before, who are also rubbish?"

He still hasnt progressed the team any and has just replaced duffers with duffers. Kuyt and Veronin are the kind of players who should be starting for pompey and everton not one of the supposedly best teams in europe.

Sorry i forgot about the 2 european cup finals we reached under Houllier

Under Houllier we were struggling to even qualify for the CL and our only hope of winning anything was the FA or League cup, we've since gone on to be serious challengers for every cup competition we enter and are building a squad capable of challenging for the league (people seem to forget that if we win our game in hand we're only 3 points behind Utd).

Yes Benitez has brought in players that haven't been up to it but in the best part they've been cleared out pretty quickly and its not as if Fergie etc haven't done the same in the past despite having the money available to work at the top end of the market.

I said at the start of the season that i still felt we were short in the wide areas but for the rest of the side (keeper, back 4, center mid and Torres) we're as good if not better than all our rivals.

Its not an assumption people are already talking about him getting the sack. I think that would be madness. Yet it wouldn't suprise me if it happens.

Not everyone is talking about him getting the sack, don't assume we all think the same.

Regarding our performances recently I don't know what to think. I sat down yesterday to watch our game and I knew exactly what to expect, the same old boring and unimaginative football we've been playing recently.

I had watched the Arsenal v United game earlier on and comparatively we looked horrendous. Both those teams play the ball through the park and knock the ball about nicely, we just tap it about the back four then wack the high ball up to our inept strikers.

Sadly, it's only going to get worse from here. If there was something we could change to improve results we'd have done it ages ago.

Erm. Sorry but I would have to disagree with that comment. Arsenal and Man Utd are better than 'your Keeper, back 4, center mid and Torres'.

One thing Liverpool have going for them is Gerrard, even though he isnt in that great form right now. He is a pile driver and great to have in the center of midfield. He is the one Liverpool player who I believe would get a 1st team position at Man Utd. As for Kuyt :D - though good enough to get into the 1st team of Rafa's Liverpool, would not be good enough to even make the bench at Arsenal or Man Utd.

If your rivals are Everton, Villa & Blackburn then you might have a case with that, but if Chelsea are your rivals then they're better in those positions and Arsenal and Man.U. are better in most too.
Reina is as good as VDS and better than Aluminium but not as good as Cech.
No-one is better than Belletti-Terry-Carvalho-Cole.
No-one is better than Lamps-Essien.
No-one is better than Drogba.
Collective teams may be better but you can't claim to be better in those positions with what you've currently got:)

I'd take Cech, Cole, Terry, Alex, Essien, Lampard, Ballack and Drogba over Reina, Riise, Carragher, Agger, Finnan, Gerrard, Alonso and Torres

Chelsea Fan? Hmmmm.

There are a large pick of Arsenal and Man Utd players that are superior to Chelsea's, as are there of Chelsea's that are superior to the others.
