I didnt bother with COD3 as i knew it wasnt done by Infinityward.
we all waited "to long" for the online patch for COD2.
My question is are you going to buy COD4 this friday (9/11/07) ? or hang on and see if there is a repeat of last time (COD2) ?

I wasnt part of the beta for COD4 so what is the overall opinion of it online ?

Am I going to let the 'fiasco' for an online patch of one of the best SP shooters on the Xbox360 put me off buying CoD4?

No.

CoD 3 online was very good and the online beta was great. I doubt I'll ever touch CoD4 single player but I know I'll love the multiplayer.

I'll buy every COD game simply for veteran mode. It's always hard but fun at the same time.

Still need to finish COD3 vet :)

You would have thought the CoD4 online beta would have reassured people that the online mode has been worked on. Muppets.

I didnt word my thread very well to be honest.
Im going to buy it but I'm not sure if i should wait and see if others complain that its laggy at first.
Ive got half life 2 here but im not sold on TF2 online.
I "eventualy" loved COD2 online :)

CoD2 was pants, it really doesn't work well with such small team sizes. CoD3 multi was much better.

CoD4 beta was absolutely awesome and i think i lagged about twice during all my time playing it so i have no worries about the net code.

Ill be getting it as soon as!

The CoD 2 & 3 patch fiasco as you call it was one of the reasons why I don't want to touch CoD 4. Like most I bought both games and after many months it was playable online. Granted CoD 3 online was utterly superb but getting on a ranked server was a headache and in the end I stopped playing.

I'm not getting CoD 4 for the above reasons, and the fact that I heard that it's SP campaign has 5-6 hrs of gameplay alone.

The CoD4 MP Beta was excellent, but since I buy games mainly for SP and class MP as a bonus, it wouldn't put me off even if it wasn't up to scratch.

It's not even out in America yet, so I doubt you've got a proper copy yet, unless you know someone who works in the industry.

Edit: As for the original question, the COD4 online beta was amazing, easily the best online multiplayer I've ever played (better than GoW and Rainbow 6 easily), so I'll be buying it simply for that. The single player game will simply be a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

Infinity Ward have learned a lot since the release of CoD2, they don't want to be another EA.

It's not out legitimately, also, how would Infinity Ward (a developer) be like EA (a publisher). If you're gonna attempt to talk sense get your facts right.
