Ok, it's been a while since I was last in here, I built my rig 5 years ago and I've not done anything to it since. Hence, it's time for a major upgrade, but I've not been keeping track of what's been going on in the world of PCs.

Can someone have a look at this and tell me if I'm going wrong anywhere?

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

2 x OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)

2 x Samsung SpinPoint T 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD321KJ)

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)

Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

OcUK GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk (66R-00765)

Further 2 x 36gb raptors from the current machine and dual layer dvd writer.

I don't play a lot of games, and those I do aren't spectacularly graphical, it's main to serve as a business machine and for photoshop / video applications.

Comments please!

Looks fine.. you could buy an additional 2GB RAM and get Vista 64. Photoshop etc may benefit from having the additional RAM.

I wouldn't bother with the Raptors tbh, I think they are noisy, expensive and don't perform any better than some of the 7200 RPM SATA-II drives.

Cheers.

I'm going for 4gb in total and I'll switch to Vista 64.

I'm only bothering with the Raptors (will probably only use 1) as a boot drive, since I already have them why not use them? The two other drives will be used as a Raid 1 array for video and photo storage.

Noise isn't rally an issue as the case is in an enclosed space under the desk.

Ditch the 8600 gts - it is too expensive for a 2d card, and too naff for a 3d card. Either spend more for a 8800 GT, or less for one of the 8x00 series.

So just a standard 8600GT? How about the 2600XT / Pros?

All fine cards. The 8600 GTS isn't bad, just it isn't a good value gamer's card, which it proports to be. That would be a x1950 pro.

Wasn't sure about going for the X1950 or not, but decided not to in the end. Football Manager is about as graphical as I get.
