You what?!

I hope you meant Mario 64 1.5 :)

Every review I've read (which is only 3 so far) has said how this far surpasses the disappointing Mario Sunshine. A few have made references to Mario 64 meeting SMB3 - which couldn't get me more excited :)

I dunno, it to me looks like Mario Sunshine, visually, i dont like to read a lot of reviews though as they tend to spoil things, so thats good to know if thats the case.

Don't Eurogamer throw 10's out like confetti?
Anyway, it's what I expected, this looks like a soon to be classic game.

Quite the opposite actually. But there's been around 4 or 5 360 games in a row that got 10/10, and now everyone is moaning about it. On the Mario note, I'm not surprised it's getting high scores, it's got the full brunt of Miyamoto's creativity behind it. I'd hardly call it Sunshine 1.5 though, it seems people are saying that from a graphical point of view and nowhere near a gameplay one! It's nothing like Sunshine!

Was I the only one that liked Sunshine? sure it had some rough edges but it was still a great game.

Lots of people loved Sunshine and it was a great game (I only played it briefly, though as I had no GC or any console).

By any standards it was a great game, but it just wasn't of the high standards people were expecting from Nintendo.

It wasn't bad, just not on par with the other flagship Mario games Nintendo have released over the years. I remember playing Sunshine and thinking how un-Mario it felt. He could have been taken straight out of the game - infact it probably would have been recieved better that way.

Wait wait, for the Eurogamer lot, can you show me a 10/10 review from that site that hasn't been echoed on just about every other gaming site ? It's interesting to note that this sentiment hasn't been applied to Gamespot, IGN, Gamesrader or Gamespy when they have been precisely the same.

The problem is, when so many games recieve the highest rating it loses credibility. That's always been the limitation with a 10 rating, only 1 review source has kept that same system and maintained its complete credibility and that's Edge who very rarely give such high marks away. I believe it's something like 6 or 7 in its history:

Mario 64
Zelda: OoT
Gran Turismo (Import and UK)
Half Life 2
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo 3
The Orange Box

Now 2 of those are actually recent, but before that the last game to get one was 3 years prior, before that it was 8 years.

If you're going to give a 10 to something it shouldn't be given so freely. Eurogamer have given several out on quick succession, despite no doubt being a good publication anything that starts giving top marks out in quick succession loses face.

Well, after reading that review, it outlines several flaws, not many and they're not major but they're still flaws nonetheless. Surely then by definition they can't give the game 10/10? a 10/10 game is perfect and i would be able to count the number of games i consider perfect on one hand.

It sounds like an extremely excellent game, but i do so hate it when a review lists some faults but then say it's perfect.
