WHAT is a lot?????

To be honest I think some people use the word "a lot" because they might not be that great at spelling I know I'm not and I use it a fair bit. However I also think with people adopting these words and using them more generally it helps to evolve the English language. Thus leading to my conclusion that its here to stay and go with the flow people. :0

Would you of done different? I've never done nothing like that though.
That be grammar errrrr grammer errrr ummmmmmm
here is one that ticks me off..............use to instead of Used to.
As in I use to see a lot of grammer school kids hanging around by the bike shed.

I see what you're saying, but this isn't simple English skills, this is being oblivious to the meaning of something which I imagine can cause many problems outside of communication.

In some cases you're right,, but not in other cases. It's all down to how your brain interprets it. Some one can have perfect knowledge of what each word means, but can still use the wrong word and not correct it.

I disagree, i think using the word a lot instead of a lot does not make a lot of difference to people other than upset a limited few.

But thank you for pointing it out. I will try and stop saying a lot and use a <SPACE> lot more often to please the offended masses :)

A lot....

It's one of those things I was taught when I was 9... it's not a lot, it's a lot.

then, than.... there,they're,there.

I learnt most of that before I even started secondary school.

Lazyness, or just unawareness.
a lot just saves you typing a space.
Than/Then, I don't know for other people but it's only been 4 months ago I learned to know what to use out of them 2.

Tbh I don't see the problem, people know what you mean or what you want to say, isn't that the point in communication?

I think it's a case of people being more openly annoyed here because we're on an internet forum. In real life you'd probably be laughed at for coming out with something so anally retentive (OP). ;)

But in terms of it being used incorrectly, I sort of wish that people wouldn't do this.

I find it disturbing that people would write "then" in place of "than" without thinking there's anything wrong with it.

I find it disturbing people watch pure drivel like emmerdale but it still happens. To the OP, get over it!

Another one is Nothink, anythink, somethink.........most people I know who are guilty of those never ever say thing instead of think..........I thing there was nothink there...............

Can someone tell me why loads of people insist on using more than one question mark???
Also why do people keep writing 'a lot' in capitals?

I bet if i ordered a lot of 24" dells screens you wouldnt turn the order down for being ungrammertised.....

So although it may, get on ya ****, you understand perfectly what it means and would be willing to allow people to get away with it in certain cases...
