8850GX2

Now that I cant say, just was reading up on specs on net but didnt show a realse date so was just wondering. Thats a hell of a claim tho to be 75% fater than a gtx. Its got 1024 DDR4 memory

Well it would make sense if it was 75% faster as thats about right for 2x 8800GTX :p.

Bet it will cost double too.

You dont need an SLi mobo for them, they use 1 slot.

Think you missed my point.

Gx2 - 2x GTX in 1 slot.

You say you hope it will be less then double the price but what im trying to say is that its likeyl to be moer then double the price.

Double the price means you can get 2x GTX in SLI But will only give you 40-50% boost. If it is true that the GX2 gives 75% bonus then it is obiously going to cost more. Plus the fact that not everyone has an SLI board means that makes them worth more as you dont need an SLI board.

Therefoer the GX2 is goign to cost moer then then the cost of two GTX's

If you follow me.

well i presume with an SLI board you could technicaly havbe quad SLI. Perhaps this would mean that the second GX2 would give you 40-50% and the card joined on it to make it the GX2 would give you 40-50% of 70% which is around 30-35%.

So thats a total persentage increase over a single card of 70%+50%+35% 155% increase in performance for 4 cards.

Not sure if i did the maths totaly right there but not really bothered in checking.

2x 8800GTX proberbly could provide 75% in one or two titles.

You recon? Ive not really ever checked tbh just taken it as about 45% to 50%. Bit tech have quite a few sli benchmarks on their recent GT review. ILl post a link and see what it is.

MMM lets see, world in conflict SLi does nothing for a GTX really: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/11/02/nvidia_geforce_8800_gt/6

Bioshock equaly shows a very small percentage increases uinless running very high resolution:

Company of heros shows between 50-200% (well just under 200%) depending on which settings which is quite encouraging:

quake wars shows about 60-75%:

I gues you were right its a lot better then 40-50% in some games. But in others its next to nothing. The furture looks promissing, perhaps its not a waste of money.

(A) 7950GX2 is not 2x 7900GT but actually 2x Mobile 7900GTX cores
(B) BioShock using SLI gives an overall FPS increase on 7 series cards of about 85% at 1280x and upwards - if your not seeing the same gains on 8 series its probably CPU limitations rather than GPU.
(C) Only game there is really any need for an 8 series SLI at the moment is Crysis - unless you run atleast 1920x with ultra high settings.

7950GX2 was 2 7900GT's together but only required 1 PCI-E Slot.

exactly, so wouldnt the 8850GX2 be 2 8800GT cards. it would make more sense than 2 8800GX2 cards.

just like it was with the 7 series:

7950GX2 > 7900GTX > 7900GT

so for the 8 series:

8850GX2 > 8800GTX > 8800GT

Since it only uses one slot, would that mean it'd be like SLI but without the SLI compatibility issues a lot of games have?

Dont really think nvidia will come out with one, would put more pressure on selling SLI motherboards if everyone bought a card that could handle 2008 games moderetly well.
