my poor cat

I can't believe how unthoughtfull many people on here are. When did this country become so uncompassionate? Some guy has had his beloved friend injured and is obviously worried & upset and all you can do is have a dig at him.

It's a sad day :(

Hope you cat makes a full recovery utajoker :)

I've only recently began to like cats as my parents were dog people.

So is it true if you run over a cat you don't have to report it but a dog legally you do ??? So dogs are classed above cats through the law?

Hope your cat gets better quick, my last cat broke his leg when he was 4 when he got hit by a car. Apart from trying to eat the plaster a few times and climbing a large tree with the leg still in plaster and not being able to get down he was fine (and he lived to 19)!

Unfortunately i've seen 2 cats knocked down. One was when i was in london for a uni interview, think it must have just happened and he/she stopped breathing as i moved it from the edge of the road. No collar and i had to get to my interview so i just placed it on the grass by the road.

The other was my neighbours cat. He saw me cross the road and ran after me, got scared, ran back and got hit :( Same as last time, he stopped breathing quickly and i just gave my friend a call and he came to take it.

No matter how lazy you are it takes hardly any time to see if a cat is still alive and would need to be taken home/vet.

True, but let's say it happens after vets/RSPCA have closed and the cat has no collar?

The Police have better things to do and I wouldn't even consider bothering them with an injured cat. If I had nowhere to be then I would try to get in touch with a vet etc but if I was going somewhere important then I doubt I would spend time getting the cat treated.

Ever tried picking up an unwilling cat?

I can't believe how heated this thread has turned!

I hope your cat pulls through OK, keep us posted. I'd be devastated if either of mine got mashed up.

just got a call back from the vets, broke his femur in 2 places, has to stay in for two nights.

not gonna get into a discussion about why people should stop or not just want my cat home now.
he gave the saddest look ive ever seen when they took him into the back

they say it could cost up to £450 to get him fixed up so were sorting out insurance now.

Crikey, lucky you're insured then!

Sounds like they can fix him, which is the most important thing :)

It's a horrible experience seeing your pet in pain, had our cat put down a few months ago - he was a brilliant companion, but have found a great 8 month old replacement!

I really hope he makes a swift recovery and you can enjoy his company asap :)

With all due respect even if the driver had stopped what would you expect him to do? I saw a cat ran over once and pulled over ( No im not a fan of cat's ) I rang the RSPCA, council and the police (local station) Nobody was bothered, infact the police officer said leave it where you found it!.

Then he was a useless officer. and of all the people you phoned, they were the wrong people. The cats protection league would have been more helpful.

With your back door being over 100feet away the driver wouldnt of found your address unless you live in the outback and yours is the only house within a 80 mile radius! Maybe you will be more careful when you let it out in future.

how could Utajoker have been more careful ? stick his cat on a leash???

(Not aimed at you) One thing I dont understand about most cat owners. They keep it indoors as a cute kitten and it gets kicked out when its older and most / all dont care what happens to them!

you have obviously never raised a cat from birth, they are kept in as kittens because they are far too dependant on their owner for food, shelter, familiarity and safety untill they are at least 6 months old, after that a cats natural instincts are attuned and they pretty much take care of themselves regardless of their owner.

To assume most/all "do not care what happens to them" is silly.

Not wishing to add fuel to the fire but some of the anti-cat comments are, in my opinion, not necessary.

Whether you like cats or not they are usually some-ones pet. An animal which is seen (rightly or wrongly) as part of the family and loved accordingly.

Obviously cats don't know the green cross code, and thus accidents do happen.

However, the scum that actively drive at animals on the road, not just cats, make my bloody boil.

I hope the OP cat makes a full recovery.

Perhaps those who find it inconsequental or worse, funny, should imagine their own anquish if one of their pets or family were involved in an RTA, especially one where it was later proven the driver deliberately aimed to hit the victim.

Our does! It looks left and right, checks if the road is clear. If there's oncoming traffic he waits until clear, again checks left and right. Then trots across.
