- Recruit units on general

- Not religion, but political freedom

- Mughals of India are in!

- new engine

- set in 1700 to the early 1800’s

- Real-Time 3D Naval Warfare

- weapons will jam and misfire, cannons will seize up and explode

- Bagpipes, drummers, flautists and trumpeters will fill the air with play out over the crack of musket fire

- reduced importance of siege battles

- formations will play importance

- Overwrite of fire use

- Hide in buildings

- Campaign map - No longer tiled

- Peter the great of russia and Charles of sweeden

- The game spans from 1700 to 1800

- The campaign map will be larger. It includes Europe, North and South America, North Africa, Central Asia, India, and Indonesia
- You will be able to build colonies. It will make a difference, whether you settle in the wilderness of the Americas, or whether you can use preexisting infrastructure in India.

- All infrastructure built within a province, will be represented on the Strategic Map. You can upgrade buildings, by clicking on them on the Strageic Map. There will still be a capital though.

- Enemy armies can plunder or conquer buildings within provinces.

- Revolutions can happen, leading to the separation of countries. (As an example, a rebellion of the Scotts was given).

- You can change the form of government between: absolute monarchy, constituional monarchy, and Republic. This will directly influence how you can deal with revolts and how fast you develop new technologies. Other factions will treat you according to your form of government.

- Taxes can be set seperately for Nobles, Burghers, and Peasants.

- The AI system will be reworked and improved. An example given is that the AI will be unified, meaning that no longer the military AI will try to conquer a territory, while the diplomatic AI is working towards an alliance with the owner of said territory.

- Diplomats, Spies and Assassins will no longer be represented on the map. A new system will be introduced.

- Historical Generals can appear.

- The mercenary system will be reworked. While you can still hire mercenaries they won't be incorporated into your regular army. How this works out exactly is not clear yet.

- Infantry can occupy buldings. They will automatically take up defensive positions and fire out of windows/doors.

- Naval warfare will be included. Each side will be able to command up to 20 ships within one battle.

- Wind will play an important role in the battles. You can set the sails of your ship according to your desired speed. You can choose between three types of ammunition, damaging hull, sails, or crew respectively.

- Multiplayer battles are supposed to be improved. A ladder will be implemented.

Edit: Does anyone have that magazine? and the or the article from it?

Nice!  I do love the Total war series, and have played each one for more hours than I can remember. :p

It's very nice to see the biggest issues being addressed, namely naval combat, new engine, no tiling. :D Massively pleased.

This should be pretty cool, really liked the previous total war games and found my self playing them for hours.

Im sure i've seen all them screenshoots before though except the concept art picture maybe.

at last a decent thread, great job OP, i didnt know this was being made thanks for the heads up it looks and sounds interesting

Hopefully they'll have made a vast improvement over the Rome Total War AI which was just dire.

Haven't played Medievil 2 Total War but would be interested in this new one especially with the navel battles.

When is this out?

From what some of the total war team have said, mid to late next year.

I also remember reading somewhere they have already spent a year or 2 on this:)

Edit: Does anyone remember if i posted the magazine pictures or not?

If a Don has removed them please say so

they can suck it until they fix M2 and kingdoms imo. which they have stated they have no plans for patching and only after the forum got angry are they "thinking about it". i resigned as a mod there over their appalling after customer antics :(

the only thing worth buying those games are the excellent modding community, DLV, SS, the XL mod and broken crescent for example outperform the original by miles.

Nice stuff. Hopefully fewer bugs too, and better ways to keep track of generals, province orders without having to click on each individually.

After the crushing disappointment of Rome: Total War (namely its AI, but also the general quality of the release) I bought Medieval 2 on release and couldn't believe the AI was still busted, and they had actually released it like it. I sold my copy a few weeks later, disgusted, and a little saddened.

The modding community is superb though, and they partially saved my Rome experience.

I so want Empire: Total War to be the business, (so I can live out my Sharpe and Hornblower delusions :D) and will of course pre order the thing, but I don't know if CA really deserve my money any more...

For the love of god...can we PLEASE...PLEAAAAAASE....have a multiplayer campaign mode, instead of just battle mode in this one??????????

Come on ! The total war series has been begging for a multiplayer campaign ever since Shogun !
