MTM Watches (Opinions Needed...)

Interesting, but I'm a big fan of not having to replace the battery and re-seal the watch every few years. My current watch (a fairly cheap citizen eco-drive) has been serving me for 5/6 years, without having to replace the battery.

One advantage of the MTM watch is that it recharges, and does so on a little stand, so hopefully I won't need to worry about sending it back/taking it to a jewellers any time soon.
I'm the same. However, the kinetic version (which I prefer) is about £300 so £120 on top of the battery version. If I wasn't such a skint student I'd go for it!

A good quality battery should last a few years and it shouldn't be that much of a problem replacing it.

I've put an offer through, if he accepts it . . it's mine (The SNA017 that is)!

The issue with battery replacement is whether you want the watch resealed to the original depth rating. On some of these military/sports type watches that is an important concern and will set you back a few quid and a couple of weeks in a service centre.

My brother is in the watch/jewelery trade and he has seen one MTM and was reasonably impressed with the build quality. Functionally its little better than a Timex in terms of features but thats not the point.

For what its worth, he mentioned that a couple of his customers are marines or something similar and he sourced Traser and Luminox watches for them. He was particularly impressed by the Traser. Neither punter has anything bad to say about them.

Think I payed about £260 for it in the end instead of the £450 they were charging in the local jewlers.

Interesting, I've had a look at the trasers, but maybe I'll take a second look. In terms of functionality, you're right that it's not a lot different, but they do have some features, e.g. the one I was looking at lights up (to illuminate the dial) and acts as a light (to illuminate things). Not the most useful thing in the world, but is apparently quite bright.

After seeing some of the other watches that have been posted on here for over 5-10 grand, I found that statement quite funny. :p

most of the real expenisve watches are complicated precision piece of engineering, often hand built

that uses a $10 quartz movement

Titanium is not a hard wearing material , it scratches and dents easily, it does not wear as well as steel and is more difficult to polish out marks

True, I thought you were referring to its durability rather than the aesthetic wear of it.

i was transporting a watch down to london last week, £220,000 worth, Jean Dunard original designed by christoffe claret. 220 piece hand made movement, Platinum casing, sapphire glass, it was very pretty.

Currently were working on a watch that should retail around £175K when finished :) not a unique piece but only a limited number will be made. :) at that price im sure we will all buy 2...

Indeed. I probably don't need less than +/- 20 seconds a month though. And titanium will probably be OK, I think I would prefer something of a lighter weight.

Damn this thread. I've bought the Titanium Seiko watch as posted :(

Will be posted out tomorrow so I could receive it on Sat/Mon! Feel so excited, can't wait! :D

I believe it is this site that I have heard about on couple of watch sites. They are distinctly dodgy apparently.

Andrew
Yeah, was just quoting it for the sake of the price as his watch has come down!

Design-wise that's rather nice :D
Would have liked the three inner faces to have slightly darker markings and hands as not to take attention away from the main face. Then again I'm not a watch designer!
