yknow I keep thinking what war films dont do enough of is make it seam so pointless. They do ofcourse show all the emotion and trauma of it all focourse but make it poetic. What I would love to see in a film is say the main char you follow from the start, from bieng this young snotty kid at home and saying goodbye to the family, yknow, then going off training etc, and the getting into the battle and bieng shot ni the head first out the trench or something. That bieng just the first half hour of the film. It would really put people off balance and make them really consider how stupid it all is. It could then, say, follow the guy who was next to him and dived for cover. And follow him till he finally gets up the courage to go fight, and also gets killed instantly.

This I think would better show the point of war. There arent heroes and no one has a chance. Theres no glory to be had etc.

There arent heroes

I really hope you don't think that about people that go to war:confused::eek:

If so you are very very naive.

There have been many heros in war, Every single Victoria Cross receiver is a Huge hero, but even people that haven't got it are Heroes IMO

No you know what I mean. Not heroes that run out there and dont get hurt etc. and seam invincible. I know there are heroes as in people that do extroidinary things under great pressure under amazing odds...

As for the other two films. Seen em and love em both :)

You will find that people do manage to run out under fire and drag injured people back or get to cover.
One of my relitives that got killed doing it managed to run into 2 or 3 german MG nests and clear them out on his own, Get blown off his feet by some explosive, Get up attack another one and thats where they found his body later.

Some people do great things in war and can seem invincible, Well, for awhile.

But i do get what you mean, With movies where you get 1 guy running around single handedly taking on an entire army

Most war films made in the past thirty years have been extremely anti-war and done a wonderful job of showing just how completely pointless war is. It's not a new idea.

The Pianist.
Schindlers List
Apocolypse Now
Full Metal Jacket
The Thin Red Line
Letters From Iowa Jim
Saving Private Ryan

The list goes on and on.

Beast of War's pretty good for showing how dire and pointless war is (also sometimes known just as 'Beast' or 'The Beast'.

Dig it out, it's a brilliant film.

Especially the bit with the watering hole...
