PS3 Bundle worth it?

Lol i know ull say ps3s don't have exclusive games but tbh i want one as im still on my ps3 and some games in the future look great like timesplitter4 and gta4. So which is a better deal.

Timesplitters 4 is a Wii game, GTA4 is better on 360

Sometimes trolling is necessary. ;)

Up until that point I mean.
However, out of those deals I would still say the best deal is hidden option number 3, the Xbox360. However, if his friends own PS3's and he wants to copy them and get what is a currently a console lacking top drawer exclusives (though Uncharted could be good) then we should let him. God forbid we should upset people.

If he REALLY wants to get the PS3, then it should be the 60gb one.

I dont get this "PS3 has no exclusives so dont buy one" ... are there no other games for the console being released ever? thats the only way I could see it being a problem lol.

Lol im not copying my mates ive wantin one for ages but now only just got a job as im old enough. Anyway ps3 are future proof with the blue ray and the FREE online play.

Yes, but they all continue to be superior on Xbox360 (bar DiRT, which is average anyway), so it nullifies that point.

As it stands, one year in the PS3 has exclusives, unfortunately not one of them has lived up to the hype and promise, and we continually here "Well the next one is going to be awesome", but it's been a bit of a cycle.
I'm not saying it has bad exclusives, but they just seem to fall in the average-to-good catagory.

As I said, Uncharted is a promising looking title, so that could be one major coup in terms of exclusives, but I think everyone was expecting more quality from Sony's games as we've come to expect over the past decade.

Blu-Ray is best used as a media format rather than a gaming one, at least whilst the drive is so slow (2x speed).
Free online is correct, however it lacks a lot of things that make the Xbox Live service so great. Whilst it's a mile better than Wii's online service, it's lacking compared to Xbox Live. I know a lot of users here have commented that they'd rather pay for Live than get PSN for free, personally I'd be willing to pay for both :p as long as Sony improve their service.

So no, they aren't really future proof as the life cycle won't be any larger than that of the Wii or Xbox360. Nothing is future proof, and certainly not games consoles.

So for Christmas i am thinking of treating myself to a nice ps3 as all my friends have one and im intrigued by the games. But firstly should i get a 40gb or 60gb? I found a deal from a well known gameing website a 40gb model with assassins creed (a game i really want) and ghost recon and with a 10% student discount comes out at £300. Or i could splash out a little bit more on a 60gb model with resistance, motorstorm(2 games all my friends have) assassins creed and Pro evo 2008 Another game i like but no to fussed if i dnt have it this is £400 but comes out at £360.
So opinions please and no i don't want a 360 for varies reasons
Thanks Pat

Depends on your cash flow situation if you can afford the price difference between the 60 and 40Gb well the 60Gb is a far better option IMO. Things like 2 extra USB ports and the mem card reader are not essential, but are quite good additions. The PS2 BC could be useful if you have some ps2 games you like playing and no longer have a PS2, or just fancy playing some classic games. If youre getting in for Christmas Konami will have patched the PS3 version as it has some online issues and playback frame rate is poor. You should also try to get hold of COD4 in a bundle if possible as its a fantastic game.

Just 1 question thats been bugging me for awhile that could be answered here instead of making a new thread.

People say the 40GB doesnt have Backwards compatability, but I thought it was all done via software emulation now? So I dont see whats stopping the 40GB from doing it aswell?

Can't be bothered to find one of the other threads that explains it better but basically:

1) 1st batch PS3s (20gb & 60gb) had the PS2 cpu and PS2 gpu in it, giving 99%ish BC
2) 2nd batch PS3s (60gb and 80gb) had only the PS2 gpu in it and the cpu done by software, giving 85%ish BC
3) 3rd batch PS3s (40gb) had neither PS2 chip in it, giving 0% BC.

Many people think that Sony may just write a fully softwrae version and have it downloadable for 40gb owners. Time will tell, but I doubt it personally, now, and it would probably give out the wrong message to consumers (again!!).

I know the first batch had the EE and GPU built in for launch in US and Japan and thought that Europe didnt get the hardware full stop and it was all done via software, guess I was wrong and it makes more sense now, thanks.

Not that it matter to me since I've already got a 60GB, it was just confusing since I thought all of Europes PS3's did it via software anyway so the 40GB not doing BC seemed a bit weird.

The graphics are still done via hardware on 60GB PS3s.

Thats news to me :) All I heard was that Europe wasnt getting the hardware included so assumed it meant software emulation since I can play PS2 games on PS3.

I still use my PS2 anyway since the PS3 cant scale the game properly to my TV at all.

Mate you aint got a clue, theres no way 2x blu-ray speed negatively affects gaming, load times arent even relatively long, the transfer rate is enough, hense why they released it! And what are all these things that psn lacks so much in comparison to live, apart from a price tag? Achievements?lol. Games aint an issue anymore, how many more exclusives are 360 releasing over ps3 next year?? Cant you just stick to 360 threads??? OP asked whether he should get a 40gb or 60gb PS3!!!!!!!! console.

The read speed does affect loading. PS3 games load noticeably slower than 360 games do. Some games install on the HDD precisely because of slow read speeds, which is an effective measure. Stop getting so worked up everytime you see something remotely negative being said about the PS3. I know you are a PS3 fanboy simply by looking at your sig which you have donned since before the PS3 was even released - you are just going to have to put up with the fact that a majority of OCUK members favor the 360, and for good reason. If you can't handle it, go to ps3fanboy.com instead, instead of throwing a hissy girly fit. Grow up.

To the OP, I would deffinitly say that the 60gb offer is a better deal, if you want a ps3 so you can play with your mates it would be a much better idea to spend the extra £60 on games you can all play together rather than the cheaper deal with one game just for yourself. Though you may not be bothered by the BC now you could well miss it in the future nullifying the 'future proof' of your ps3.
