Where do you work?

I work for one of the worlds leading communications acronyms - BT

I work mainly with VPNs, VRFs, PBXs, NTEs/NTUs, RAS, MUXs, ATM. I have to work PDQ due to tight SLAs to ensure it's BAU for our customers (eg BP).

I'm a training officer for a Kyocera sub-division that makes ceramic capacitors for just about every company that needs them.

Money isn't bad, but finishing at 3pm every day is awesome.

Part-time locksmith, full-time tea slave :D

Really looking to get out of there cos it is pants but i'm due an op anytime soon. Can't really go into a new job only to leave a week later for a few months.

Just out of interest, what are you using to develop your e-learning?

Thats a very big question :D a lot of my work is done making flash based games and exercises (mainly drag and drop games and diagrams that talk when you click on parts of them)
We have a inhouse custom built intranet site where a lot of places buy off the shelf software. We're also experimenting with other features at the moment to do with video streaming and online seminars. All exciting stuff

Screwfix Direct Ltd. (You may have heard of it :))
Applications Support Analyst

Second-line support, responsible for ensuring orders are transferred to the warehouse from the call centre/website. Equally important is ensuring the warehouses correctly receive trade counter replen orders to keep the TCs functioning. Sounds pretty basic stuff but the systems are hugely complicated and so things require close monitoring as there are multiple failure points.

We also support unix servers, databases (MS SQL, Oracle AND Sybase), credit card servers, fax server and also the inhouse developed 'does-it-all' application.

There's also lots of project work going on, plus there's usually a live issue almost every day which keeps you on your toes. Not to mention the frontline helpdesk guys pestering us ;)

I work at Sedgefield Borough Council as a Helpdesk operator.

Just got a new job though, moving to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council for the same job as soon as i get a start date:)

Corex
Petrographer

Basically all kinds of geology type goodness :)

I'll (hopefully:p) be graduating with a geology degree in a year or so and I have no idea what type of geological job I want to get into after. I was just wondering how long have you been working there, do you enjoy it and what sort of things do you do day to day?:)

Not using Blackboard then? :)

My last job was "Web and E-Learning developer" for a university, on the e-learning side it essentially meant java crap for Blackboard. At least we had the full academic, portal and content suite to play with though (one of the first unis in the UK to get the full lot).

Luckily I didn't have to deal with the actual content.

Either way working in the gaming industry is a LOT more fun. I'm so glad I got out of the public sector and all it's inherent bickering, empire building and politics. :)
