Plus the guy told him it could be traced over the last 2 years, not sure if that is BS or not though.

if that was the case there would be a lot more sports people reported in the papers regarding recreational drug use.

sports people only get urine tested and very occasionally blood. drugs are locked within the hair as it grows out.

The question is, who on earth would want to work for somewhere that mandated drugs tests? I don't and have never taken drugs (illegal ones). But I would still refuse the test out of principle.

No drugs test = no job.

You better get use to it more and more jobs are going this way. It won't be long till it's standard for anyone working for machinery.

In order to catch the people who lie about taking drugs, you need to test the honest people too. I have no problem with being tested if it means I don't have to work beside drug addicts.

From what I've seen of some IT guys contracted to government depts, previous drug use is probably a prerequisite.

Lying on the application and/or security questionnaire, however, is another matter. Tell him not to stop looking.

Just because someone uses drugs doesn't make them an addict, junkie or mean there is anything wrong with them...

I'm subject to drug testing (including alcohol). Regardless of whether it's illegal or legal drug use, most companies don't won't to take the risk of employing someone who might have a problem, especially those failing urine testing as it implies you would turn up for work with drugs in your system like you did for your pre-job medical.
