if you wanted to know who the stig is...

****, getting my Stigs mixed up. My understanding of Stig Mk2 is though, that there are actually several? (Ignoring American and African Stigs.) At least three regulars, and several guests.

M

Correct. You can tell if it's a "different" stig as their heights vary quite substantially.

I know Renault F1 driver Heikki Kovalainen did the Renault F1 drive around the track. And Toyota F1 test driver Ricardo Zonta did the Toyota F1 indoor stunt..

Also isnt Damon Hill in there somewhere ?

There is but one Stig :)

The rest are mere amateurs :p

There are more than one "stig", they certainly wouldn't let Collins loose in the F1 car, plus he is too slim to be Ben Collins... And he has driving talent, which Ben Collins doesn't have.. I think there is probably 3 or 4 of them...

wasnt it also rumoured to be Julian Bailey as well ?

as some have said, its whoever they've got available and whoever they will let in the car. the F1 cars will just have been their F1 test drivers with the stigs helmet.

I think your mistaken

Ben placed 2nd in the Marlboro Masters world class Formula Three championship event in 2000 and set the pace at the 2001 Le Mans 24 hours in his first season; for some four hours during the rain at night. After winning the European Stock Car Championship in 2003 ASCAR stock car racing he was signed by PDM Racing to do selected rounds of the 2004 Indy Racing League, but the car never appeared. In 2005, he competed in the British GT Championship in a Porsche 996 GT3, winning races on the way before moving up to the FIA GT Series with Ascari where he led races and scored several Pole Positions.

It is rumoured that Ben is lined up to compete in American Nascar racing in 2008 (his stated ambition) and is undergoing testing with a leading team in Nextel Cup.

No wait your right, Hes a talentless **** driver:rolleyes:

The Stig is a character. I very much doubt they hired an expensive racing driver to catch a train across London for example... no, for that, they probably just used one of the Top Gear guys from the office who has an understanding of how the Stig character has to act.

i think personally think they have some1 contracted to the BBC who is the the stig most of the time. he's probably the driver that does the timed laps to get some consistency

but even then, i think you're right. i couldnt see some ex formula 1 driver getting a bus across london. contracted to BBC or not.

I have always wondered why he is called the Stig, because everyone thinks of Mr Blomqvist, is it some sort of flattery to him?

Clarkson and the series producer went to the same public school. Stig was the nickname give to all new boys by the older kids, so they just used that.

Alledgedly.

I can only assume he's named after Blomquist, but he is a Rally driver, the top gear driver isn't, so a tad strange

Apparently "Stig" was a word used in Jeremy Clarkson's school back in the day for any new students. Also JC uses the character in his own DVD's so I'd guess it's safe to say that JC probably owns the "Stig" idea and got that written into his BBC contract when the new format of Top Gear was still in discussions.

You fools, you should all know that the Stig isn't actually human.

He is a simple cybernetic organism that was built solely to drive !

"Some say that his voice can only be heard by cats, and that he is banned from the town of Chichester"
