Evening, I was hoping that someone may help to clarify something for me. I am travelling with my girlfriend to New York on 17th Dec and a friend of mine said we need visas. Upon checking this on the internet it is not really clear what the standing is on this, we are both UK passport holders and don't have criminal records etc, but whats the actual standing?

Anyone been recently and had problems?

Thanks in advance.

UK passport = 6 months max stay, no visa req. As said above, you do all the immigration forms on the plane.

Will these forms be given to me then, i dont need to apply for anything? We just turn up and we should be fine, we are only going for 6 nights btw :)

And blimey quick responses, thanks.

it's a bit tighter than a criminal record, technically you need a Visa if you have ever been arrested, even if they release you 10 mins later after realising they got the wrong person

Or if you were a part of the Nazi government in Germany from 1939-1945. I always laugh when I see that on the form. :D

Yeah they handed them out on the plane when I went. Hope you aren't flying to Philidelphia airport, immigration seemed to take a really, really long time due to stupid airport staff :\

c) Have you ever been or are you now involved in espionage or sabotage; or in terrorist activities; or genocide; or between 1933 and 1945 were you involved in any way, in persecutions associated with Nazi Germany or its allies?

YES/NO

Do they check when you are boarding or something then? Think/hope we should be fine though :)

6 months?

I thought it was your passport must be valid 6 months after you leave and the standard entry visa is 90 days?

One thing to add when you fill out the visa forms on the plane you will need the address (and maybe phone no.) of the first point of stay (ie hotel)

From what I recall when I went to Arizona in 1999, they gave me a green form to fill out on the plane. It will usually be stapled to your passport on arrival and removed when you leave. I believe it's 6 months but holiday purposes and no entitlement to work, etc.

I am unsure what its like now post 9/11
