ok, so after going to brighton from Kingston upon thames VIA maidstone (I got a little lost) i decided to invest in a GPS system, hey its my birthday, i might as well treat myself.

so I got a tom tom one, loving it to bits, speed camera updates are awesome and its a dab hand at guiding me correctly to my destination WITHOUT the 50 mile detour. However, ive noted an inconsitancy between it and my poor renault clio :<, i think my speedo is wrong!

According to my speedo, and according to the tom tom.

Speedo 30 - tom tom - 26-7
Speedo 40 - tom tom - 35-6
speedo 50 - tom tom - 44-5

so the question is, how accurate is a tom toms guess at my speed? is my speedo really THAT out??

im not to bothered if i is, ill always keep to the speedo's reading as i dont mind playing it safe and being a couple of miles below the speed LIMIT, but dang, to be that wrong?!

Against GPS, mine is only 2-3mph out at 50-60mph, which I thought was good (probably due to changing from 16" to 17"?).

I can't remember exactly, but it's only ever 1 or 2 MPH out. I guess they did a good job of converting the Four from KPH to MPH.

on my old fiesta the speedo was 5+ mph over.... the police even stoped me once for driving too slow... (23ish in a 30) they thought i was drunk.... lol

The one on my Pop is bang on but they went to unneccessary lengths to get stuff like that right back then :D

My bike speedo over-read by about 12%

4mph out at 100mph.

TomTom isn't that accurate either. Try checking the speed on a downhill, then turn round and do the same up the hill

Mine seems to be pretty much spot on, within 2 MPH up to around 50.

Starts to be more out as the speed increases, 100MPH = 90 on GPS.

About 3-4mph from my GPS Sat Nav.
33mph is a real 30. 74 is a real 70. I'm not going to admit to anything faster.

It gets hard to read properly at higher speeds. At 90mph the speedo swaps to 20mph increments rather than 10mph which is a tad annoying.
