I'm going to get my eyes lasered and obviously with something as important as this I want to get the best service available.

I've decided to go for the intralase with wavefront (the one with no blades of any sort) My sight is only -2.00 in each eye so I stand a good chance of ending up with 20/20 vision afterwards.

So far I've been to 2 consultations to compare the different companies. Went to Optical Express first who seemed a bit amateurish to be honest, nobody seemed to know what they were doing which wasn't confidence inspiring. Then I went to Ultralase who were brilliant, extremely professional in every respect however they were also just a few quid short of £4000 (compared to £2400 at Optical Express)
Next week I've got a consultation at Optimax before I make up my mind.

I was just wondering who'd had the procedure, with who and what they thought. If there's anyone in Bristol who's had it done then I'd like to hear from you.

Cheers

If they're pretty much spot on why risk the procedure?

On another note, I happen to have rubbish vision in my left eye and good vision in my right eye. My only problem is there isn't actually anything wrong with my left eye, it's just "lazy". My question is can you have eye surgery on a lazy eye, as I have heard you cannot :(

Cheers.

I went for the £800 all in epi-Lasek from Optimax via eBay, great service and better then 20/20 vision after.

I had around -2.25 in each eye.

Edit I went to the Bristol Optimax.

I can recommend Ultralase. I used the Guildford one just over 2 years ago and i had -6.25 in one eye and -4.25 in the other. I now still have better then 20/20 in both eyes with no dry-eye or any other side effects. They were a little more expensive then most, but i was very impressed with all the research i had done on them.
I also managed to get a 0% finance deal over 3 years maybe it's worth asking them about that?

Unless you have to wear specs a half inch thick I wouldn't do it...if you've got thin lenses then it's just vain.

I'm a spec wearer, pretty poor eyesight and I wouldn't risk laser surgery.

Maybe you're just ill-informed mate.

I used Maxivision in Manchester in October 2000, cost £1700 in total. I had -3 in both eyes and after 15 mins of treatment and a few hours rest, my eyesight was loads better. Ended up being -0.25 in one eye!
Brilliant, best money i ever spent. Back then the success rate was around 95%. Seven years on, it will surely be better.

-0.25 in one eye.... was that the one remaining one ? :p

:)

95% success rate isn't to bad, 99% isn't bad at all, but if you are the one that gets screwed, you can end up blind, thats a big risk to take.

I'd say 5% failure rate is quite high. So out of 100 people, 5 people have minor to major eye sight loss (worse than pre-op sight) after laser surgery.
