Hi there,

Don't know if this is in the right section so if it's not could it pleased be moved. Cheers!

Christmas is on the way and been thinking recently about getting a joystick.

I used to play a few flight games (Flight Sim, Flight Unlimited, Hellbender etc) but that was back in the day on a Microsoft Sidwinder 3D Pro:D

I got a few space sim games back along and might try flight sim out again (& any new flight games) as I have always found them quite fun but I HATE playing them on a keyboard.

Baiscly I was wondering what joysticks people would recommend? I don't want to spend silly money (or should I say don't want to make Santa spend silly money;)) but want a half decent one. I would love it have the throttle control on the joystick as I used to love it on my 3D Pro.

Would anyone suggest getting a Force feedback one? I used to hear all about them but never had one.

I think I would get back into my flight games (especilly some space one's) if I got a joystick but it won't be all I play.

Looking on the OCuk site the most expensive I could get would be the Logitech Force 3D Pro Joystick @ ~£38. Are any below that price better or would do? Santa is on a budget:rolleyes:

Cheers in advance, Doug.

i have a thrustmaster after burner and i love it. Buttons are in perfect possitions for fingers. Not tried any others. Had an after burner 2 and after burner force feed back. Though bf2 dont work with the force feed backa nd its the only game i paly with it lol. Just love those helicopters :p

:EDIT:

didnt see you had a budget. I would strongly suggest you dont buy a cheap one. Cheap = wont last long. Some of the logitec ones have been said to last up to 6 months before dieing when i was thinkin bout buying them. They break and dont calibrate properly. Cant land a plane when it keeps rolling lol.

Hmmm, well I have had a word and £30-£40 is my limit.

Is it worth getting the cash then and saving up for a better one?

I would only play the games evrey now and again... more of an FPS kinda guy:D

i read some bad things about them also. But also good things so i gues mix. O and dont get wireless, slower responec and do you want to crash because u ran out of batteries?

K, sorry to be posting again it's just that Santa needs his list;)

I think that, given the money he has, it has to be one of these:

Are they all just about as good as one another (from a user's perspective) and is the force feedback worth the extra bit?

Also is the wireless worth it? After the pos above i'm not sure.... but would like to play from my bed every now and again.

Cheers again, Doug.

Cant go wrong with Saitek Cyborg Evo , i have one my self and i dont id change it for any other joystick. had it for at least a good year now and its still in mint condition even though it is used a lot. Sturdy, Reliable and well , it just works !

about the wireless one i would personally not go for it, aparantly its heavy and so on but ive never tried one.

My friend has the force and i have to say it is nice i guess say when i played pacific fighters and when you shoot you can almost feel it but i wouldnt say it was worth it or neccessary if your on a tight budget.

sorry bit OT buy, do you just use keyboard and mouse for bf2 and then just switch over to a joystick when flying a chopper of plane? does it make a big difference using a joystick over keyboard and mouse?

oh memories!

i think i still have mine somewhere

I dont see why its over the top. Try kill a good pilot with a joystick when your on keyboard and mouse. I dont play as much as i used to but i used to play in planes and helecoptors a lot, especialy for clans and a good pilot really can win the game as the enermy cant get anything in the air or use any amour and even then infantry is pritty easy to take down. With a good gunner youll easly control the game and rarely die.
