All this card needs to do is match, or come close to, the 8800gt in Crysis. Every other game out there is likely to run well.

I would like to see some comparisons in a couple of weeks, so that Crytek may have had chance to release patch, and NVidia and AMD have had some time to make some tweaks.
 
Ok Bios has been changed successfully! Used Winflash and the bios file so just gotta try clocking the beast!

*EDIT* Great Success :) The Card clocked to 885Mhz Core in CCC first time! :D Woohoo! That 860 limit was really annoying! Il need to use riva tuner/ati tool to try and clock this properly though

Ok guys quick feedback, these are early days attempts that prove the bios can be altered to accept the clocks but there is some bad news! Any speed over the 860Mhz will freeze after a period of time! This was tested quickly in 3DM06 and both failed in test one at 865Core and 885Core! So while its nearly there it isnt quite! I cant think its to do with the Fan on the card or anything so another bios tweak and we should be there I'm thinking!

Despite the disappointment it is encouraging!
 
Isn't that exactly what used to happen though? Clock beyond its limit and the card would lock up due to the overvolting?

Doesn't sound like the flashing process has done anything tbh. My cards will easily hit 870+, but will only last maybe 2 minutes when doing so.

No its not exactly what used to happen! It would usually lock up in the overclocking tool and now it doesnt, just locks up ingame! Seems like its going in the right direction though so lets hope for a decent version 2!

What version of Winflash did You find worked ?

Depends what they have done to that modded bios but in the past there were thermal time and temp settings to protect the cards
We can not do too much until something like Rabit gets updated..unless You want to edit strings of hex !
 
When are these gonna drop to £130-145 on OCUK and be in stock? I cant justify spending £160 on a 3870XT and defo not £190-220 on a 8800GT.

Really interested in overclocking one of these 3870's. Will these run cod4 maxed out with super duper frame rates?
 
How would a BIOS flash fix AA? Please stop trolling the ATI threads :(

All the BIOS does is control basic I/O functions of the card, it has nothing to do with how GPU commands are processed at all.
