After seeing the Bull Massiff thread, it got me thinking. Do you think you take a strong dog like a rotweiler seriously? Although big dogs they generally have a weight disadvantage of humans. What does the dog have in it's favour

. Sharp teeth, powerful jaw
. Basically a large mass of muscle

Perhaps i'm naive but I think although it would be one hell of a struggle with a dog hanging off of my arm, I still think i'd be able to work myself into a position to kill/seriously injure the dog.

(Although I must admit I was very surprised to see it took a taser and 5 rounds to take the dog down!!!)

kick/punch in the nose. Although proper dogs are hard as nails, not those rat dogs and the like.

One of my mates used to have a Japanese Aketa(sp) I used to wrestle with it and it was very strong (it didnt bite properly either as it knew it was playing)

monsterous dogs! used ot live next ot a young one (Kobe, all white), his paws were massive and when he stood on hind legs he was taller than me (5'9 ish)!!
soft as hell, just big and heavy :D

The dog would own you.

Although my dog wouldn't, even though he's big. He's a Golden Retriever and he's a soppy fluffball that would probably try to kill you by licking.

Best way I know of.

1) Wrap something around your arm for example a jumper/something thick.
2) Ensure the dog goes for your arm
3) Once the dog has your arm in it's jaws hit the neck of the dog very hard with your fist/stick.

if you think about how people crumple on the floor after a punch to the arm or a kick to the leg, 99.99% of people will be on the floor in the foetal position within a split second of a dogs teeth tearing into their flesh.

you would have to have very fast thinking and very fast hands and feet to fight a dog that is intent on hurting you. something that most people in the heat of the moment (fight or flight) do not have.

People are no match for big dogs unless trained or armed; especially when it's facing you. Attacking a dog from the side or behind you have some chance to throttle or do "legs apart" move (though, to be honest, you'd have to be very strong to pull it off on a big dog, methinks). Kicking or punching a big, fighting or guarding breed dog in the face will make no difference.

If you were prepared for the attack, (not with weapons just knew it was coming) I think you could win. You would have to end the fight quick, you can't out last it.

Throw a brightly coloured rubber ball which the dog will chase and escape swiftly in the opposite direction. Saw this actually happen at a footie match once with a Police dog, the dog took off after the ball taking the handler with it, much to the crowds amusement :D

Depends what you were fighting, for example:

Has a bigger head and neck than most of us!

Whereas:

You could just snap it's neck

Break it's neck or strangle it. You can wear those knife proof sleeves to stop it severing your arm. Their legs look pretty fragile as well.
