Fighting a dog

Best way I know of.

1) Wrap something around your arm for example a jumper/something thick.
2) Ensure the dog goes for your arm
3) Once the dog has your arm in it's jaws hit the neck of the dog very hard with your fist/stick.

as a big dogs runs at you...

"one second lad whilst i just whip off my jumper and wrap it around my arm"

As the owner of a small dog that all large dogs seem to want to eat, I can confirm neil3k's approach. Never punch with your fists that which you can stomp with your boots. Or better still hit with any handy hard object.

Although I've cracked a few of the owners in the chops.

With big dogs you need to stay upright - if the fight goes to ground then you'll need to be bloody lucky. Protect your throat. If you can get a fistful of its neck and get its front legs off the ground its then got sod-all leverage and you can kick its back legs into splinters.

Different matter if its already got its teeth into you - YMMV.

The best tactic would probably be chambered in 9mm or 12ga, but sadly that's illegal in this crappy country.

I think it's impossible to say and I guess the same person fighting the same dog would have vastly different outcomes on different days.

I would go for the eyes, I don't know how dogs react to being jabbed in the eye but if it is anything like the response when being grabbed by a human they will instantly let go.

if you think about how people crumple on the floor after a punch to the arm or a kick to the leg, 99.99% of people will be on the floor in the foetal position within a split second of a dogs teeth tearing into their flesh.

you would have to have very fast thinking and very fast hands and feet to fight a dog that is intent on hurting you. something that most people in the heat of the moment (fight or flight) do not have.

I agree with that, but if you're a relatively big person and you were prepared to fight the dog without crumpling to the floor on the first bite, I think you'd have chance. maybe.....

Almost spot on, attack dogs are at there most vunerable when they have hold of you. However the force needed to disable a dog by hitting it (bearing in mind dogs skeletal frames are almost armour plated) you should be thinking crowbar with all the force you can muster, not stick or hand.

Or of course just put your hand in it's mouth and pull all its teeth out :D

Does not have to be a "jumper" exactly even if you was wearing a coat the aim is to get the dogs jaws locked around your arm whist you can attack the dogs vital areas. ie the neck and the head.

there is a method of knocking a dog out from applying pressure to a point in their neck, no idea the technique of it.

Fine when it is just standing there and you take it by surprise, but you would die of bloodloss before it worked in reality. It's the same with nearly all the pressure point techniques in Martial Arts....most are myths.
