Following on from JM's dealings with his childhood dreamcar on TopGear a while back Lamborghini countach, are there any cars you really wanted and were then disappointed by them when you got to drive one?

M5. Not driven one yet. Deliberately avoiding it as it will end in tears as:

a) I will be dissapointed

or

b) It will do what no other car I have ever driven has yet and make my car feel crap.

A black Nova GTE lowered with tints, alloys and a bean can exhaust... when I was 12.

I really lusted after my dad's 3.0 V6 Omega when I was 16. I got one for myself 2 years later.

Mitsubishi Evo? That's still on my "cars to own" list.

Diablo. Was the one I always wanted as a kid.
charger and firebird when I hit teens. Mainly down to films like dazed and confused.

No the charger is huge and fun to drive, with a loud engine that rattles the car when opened up. Only disappointment is it's state of repair. Might not be the fastes but deffnatley has the wow factor and road presence.

I think when I was a kid it'd have to have been K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider :D, then from teens a Shelby GT500 .

As yet not got the chance to drive either :p.

As a kid for me it was the TR6 but still yet to even ride in 1 let alone drive 1.As a adult it was the Jag XKR,didn't like it.

I lusted after an MG Montego Turbo. I loved the whole aspect of a boring looking 4 door saloon with some serious punch.

Funny really... as I was just saying to my Dad over the weekend how similar my car is to an MG Montego Turbo. 4 door saloon and all that ;)

Skyline GTR, ridden in every generation (apart from the 35!) they are great, the dream is very much still alive.
Most of you will find this sad but I wanted a colt for years, no real reason I just liked the look of the one owned by a guy who lived near my school, now I have a range-topping one and i'm very happy with it.

Also not technically a car i've always wanted but all of a sudden M3 CSL's seem very appealing.
