What's a good case for water cooling?

Hi,

I'm planning my next PC project. I intend to take the "plunge" into Water Cooling and I am looking for a suitable case.

I need a large tower case with the PSU mounted at the top, above any water leaks, and with plenty of space at the bottom, below the MB, for pumps, etc.

This is also going to be a very quiet PC, so I want a case with solid panels and only the minimum of ventilation & fans. Ideally just a single 120mm fan on the rear panel and, possibly, another at the front to cool the disks.

The case should accommodate an ATX motherboard, at least 5 x 3.5" disk drives, ideally with some sort of vibration damping, plus a floppy disk drive and a couple of CD/DVD drives.

Cost wise, err, functionality is more important than price (within reason). Colour is not a major consideration either, but black would be good.

Thanks in anticipation

John

Hmm Akasa isnt the best for watercooling, (unless you want external rad or a 240 max in the top, as long as you dont have a large PSU like mine ;)) I have one and love it, but I am changing as I am about to go watercooled.

If your budget can allow, a Silverstone TJ07 would be a good one too, no having to cut large holes to mount the rads ;)

I am 99% thats what I am going to get ..

The Lian Li G70 will do a very nice job for you.
The Eclipse is ok, but its not perfect if you want a big loop. It can easily take 2 120.1s, but if you want any bigger rads it becomes a pain in the neck. I've got a PA120.2 on the back and the case is now so long, plus not as sturdy as I'd like, not to mention getting at cables is a pain.
Thinking of swapping mine for a Lian Li at some point :p

I know someone selling an older style coolermaster stacker with a 120.3 rad mounted in the bottom. Fans and controllers fitted etc.

They come with a cooled hard disk cage and although it's silver, it has a black front.

That's the kind of thing you want....loads of space and matches your spec to a t.

I had a lian li pc75 and hated it. It was flimsy, thin and vibrated if you looked at it funny. I've seen the pc60 and that wasn't any better. I'd never pay the premium for a lianli again!

Thanks for the interesting & useful feedback.

By chance, a friend has an old Coolermaster Stacker (the original STC-T01 with 11 x 5.25" drive bays) that he's willing to part with - as long as I promise to give it a good home :D

that's the same one as my brother has and is getting rid of due to going to s sff.

cracking case and perfect for what you want!

Thanks,

My friend brought the case round tonight. It's a bit dusty and has a couple of missing screws (not a problem, I have plenty spare). My initial reaction is Jeez, that's big! Still I'm going to have plenty of room in side :D

you should be fine with the stacker. Look forward to the build log :)

(sorry couldn't help myselpf :p)

Custom built granite water block mate ;)

I decided to go with a free flowing design, I find that the natural convection current of the water is plenty to provide heat dissipation.
