BIOS overclocking options greyed out

I have an AMD 64 FX-60 with a ASUSTek A8N32-SLI-Deluxe mobo.

The bios is American Megatrends.

For some reason the clock speed and other related settings are greyed out with no obvious way to manually adjust them.

Could anyone help?

Did you build the system yourself or is it a ready built system from a competitor?

Often, manufacturers lock the overclocking options in the bios to cover their arses should anything go wrong. I've tried overclocking the pc's in purple shirted gays before and most of the options were greyed out/locked.

I did succeed once though and upped the fsb by 5......the pc wouldn't boot again.

Yeah, the overclocking options will be locked. Basically to stop you overclocking which would void the warrenty as if you did overclock, you could argue that since they had the option there, it should be covered.

So unless you flash the bios/get a new mobo, no overclocking for you unfortunately :(

Ahh I see.

w3bbo - I did find the option that you referred to - it was on another bios screen. I changed it to Manual but the options are still greyed so it does look like I can't do much.

I wanted just to change the multiplier from 13 to 14 to boost it to around 2.8Ghz from 2.6 - just a simple thing as I've put a FreezerPro 64 fan in. I'm not educated enough to dare to change mobo's or flash bios's. I can't risk not having it working lol

Incidentally, there were some options that were changable but I'm guessing it's not what I want:

CPU FSB Freq 200
SB to NB Overclock Manual
SB to NB Frequency 200
Adj PCIE Frequency 100
PEG link mode Auto

Cha\nge the fsb from 200 to 220 and you will get 2860mhz on your cpu :)
