The Greatest Video Game Endings of All Time - SPOILERS!

my favorite ending is the mgs snake eater ending. specially when you nail the boss. i thought it was quite sad. i love the theme tune at the end also.

EDIT: almost forgot to add Ace combat, squadron leader. when your wingman ploughed into the middle of a football stadium, and yes i know its not the end end. but it was dramatic.

I was a bit disappointed with Zelda Occarina of Time though
It doesn't even make much sense - to the point where we some kind of dual universes in the Zelda world now.

WindWaker, on the oher hand, had an absolutely fantastic ending. Say what you want about the game as a whole, but Ganondorf shedding a final tear at everything thats happened as the water came crashing down around him was brilliantly done. WW's story was simple, but so much more interesting than the usual Zelda no-brainer plot.

Agreed, never seen a better ending to a game ever. The game connects you with the characters, and the ending was quite surprising as I just didn't see it coming.

yeah, I've got to say I can usually spot endings far ahead of time, but I never ever suspected what actually transpired, just hope the 2nd one has an amazing story

I felt the best final fantasy ending was FFX. FFVI through to FFVIII were better games but the excellent voice acting and advancements in CG technology utilized in FFX immersed me so much, it was like watching the end of a really good film.

On the Final Fantasy front, i really hated FFXII storyline and characters, never bothered completing it due to a complete lack of affection for any characters there. The gameplay was fantastic though.

Other endings that have stayed in my memory are Metal Gear Solid, Half Life 2 (who doesn't love the Gman), Call of Duty 4 and Knights of the Old Republic (not the actual ending sequence for that one, but the whole buildup to the end in general).

I'd say 'The Darkness' is up there, I thought it was a brilliant ending to a brilliant story.
Call of Duty 4 also ends very well.

I'm not very good at remembering endings though! Drawing a blank for those I haven't finished in the last 6 months :p.

how the hell can games like FEAR be on there when games like MGS 1 2 and 3 arnt?

Because it's not to everyone's taste. I personally thought MGS3's ending was magnificent, but at the same time, extremely drawn-out and convoluted. MGS1 and 2's endings were lengthy but nothing really differentates those two from your average gormless Hollywood flick.

FFX's ending made me cry like a grandma. Especially the part when Tidus jumps off the ship into the afterlife.

FFX was a superb ending when Auron and Tidus "melt" away.

Never got round to completing FFX-2 but i really enjoyed the characters and storyline of FFX

FFX-2 should never be mentioned in the same sentence of FFX :p

Terrible game, and they should have left it as it was with just X. :D

I really enjoyed the endings to Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. The final fight(s) from TP are like a homage to previous titles and bit of that famous Space World vid with some of the sword play with Ganondorf.

I thought Knights of the Old Republic had an excellent twist towards to end, and was also a game I thought had an excellent end.

From all the recent games I have played (recent being the last 5 or 6 years) the most memorable ending has been MGS 2.

Definitely memorable, but for all the wrong reasons for me. The whole conclusion to the game was almost 10:1 cut-scene to gameplay and by the end I just wanted it over.
